Danfoss 018F6757 BE024DS Solenoid Coil, 24 V DC, multi pack

Description

A 24 V DC clip-on coil with IP67 terminal box for Danfoss EV220B and related valves

The 018F6757 is the Danfoss solenoid coil type BE024DS, a blue clip-on coil for 24 V DC with a terminal box (Pg 13.5 cable entry) and an IP67 enclosure rating. Danfoss lists a long parts programme for this coil: EV210B, EV212B, EV220B in the 6-22, 15-50 and 65-100 ranges, EV222B, EV224B, EV227B, EV250B, EV251B and EV258B. It is the coil to specify when a 24 V DC control circuit from a PLC or control panel operates a servo-operated solenoid valve, and 24 V DC is the usual control voltage in automation cabinets.

The code is a multi pack. The Danfoss store lists 32 pieces per packing format, so the quotation will state whether a single coil or the pack is supplied.

Clip-on coils of this family are used on refrigeration, freezing and air-conditioning valves as well as on general fluid valves, and Danfoss designs them for the aggressive conditions of high humidity and wide temperature swings that occur in such plants. The blue coil body, the Danfoss mark and the type and code on the label let a maintenance team identify the correct spare quickly, which is why this part is often kept as a stocked spare next to the valve it serves.

Selecting and fitting the coil

The clip-on system lets the coil be mounted without tools and removed with a screwdriver, and the data sheet describes the family as encapsulated coils with long life even in high humidity and temperature fluctuation, available from 12 V to 420 V and dimensioned for opening differential pressures up to 38 bar. Wire the leads to the terminal screws in the box (conductor 0.75-1.5 mm2) and use a cable entry matching 6-11 mm cable to keep the IP67 rating.

See the published Danfoss EV220B 15-50 servo-operated solenoid valve page for a valve that uses this coil family, and the solenoid valves category. Confirm the valve type, voltage and pack quantity with us before ordering.

Checks before replacing a BE024DS coil

Read the label on the existing coil and the valve nameplate before ordering, because a coil that fits mechanically may still be the wrong voltage or the wrong type for the valve. Confirm that the control circuit really is 24 V DC and not 24 V AC, since AC and DC coils are not interchangeable. Measure the supply at the coil terminals with the valve energised: long cable runs from a PLC output card can drop the voltage, and the coil needs to stay within its tolerance band to pull the valve armature reliably. Check also that the PLC output or relay contact is rated for the coil power listed above and, where the output is a transistor, that suppression of the switching surge is provided either in the output card or in the circuit.

Fitting and first switching test

Isolate the control supply before removing an old coil. Slide the new BE024DS fully onto the armature tube until it clips in place, and make sure it is not tilted. Strip and terminate the conductors neatly in the terminal box, tighten the cable gland on a cable within the stated diameter range, and close the box lid with its gasket seated so the IP67 rating is kept. Never energise the coil when it is not mounted on its valve armature tube, because without the magnetic circuit it can overheat quickly. With the line under normal pressure, switch the coil on and off several times from the control system and confirm that the valve opens and closes cleanly with no humming or hesitation.

Maintenance in service

Coils on continuous duty run warm, which is normal for this class of winding, but they should not discolour or smell. During routine rounds check that the coil is still firmly clipped on, that the cable gland is tight and that no water is entering the terminal box. If a valve fails to open, measure the voltage at the coil terminals first, then the coil resistance with the supply off, before changing the coil; a valve that will not move with a healthy coil usually points to a mechanical or pressure-differential issue in the valve itself.

Oman and GCC operating conditions

Solenoid valves in Oman often serve chilled-water, refrigeration and irrigation systems where coils see both high outdoor heat and condensation from cold pipework. Compare the expected ambient temperature around the coil with the upper limit in the specification table, especially for valves installed in rooftop plant areas or inside unventilated cabinets in summer. Shade coils that sit in direct sunlight, and keep a drip loop in the cable so condensate and wash water run away from the gland. Dust storms can leave fine sand around the terminal box lid; wipe it clean before opening the box, so particles do not fall onto the terminals or gasket. Keeping a small number of correctly labelled spare coils near critical valves makes replacement during a hot-season breakdown much quicker.

About brand

From its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark, where it was founded in 1933, Danfoss makes the drives, valves and sensors found in pump rooms, chiller plants and cold stores. Its blue VLT frequency converters are probably the most familiar of them.

Seven Star LLC lists Danfoss VLT drives, pressure transmitters, refrigeration valves and HVAC control valves, and supplies them to contractors and plant owners in Oman against the exact code number on the label.

Danfoss product families on this page

Among the VLT drives listed, three are each aimed at a different duty: the VLT HVAC Drive FC 102 for fans and building services, the VLT AQUA Drive FC 202 for water and wastewater pumping, and the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 for general industrial machinery. The LCP 12 control panel with potentiometer (code number 132B0101) is also listed; Danfoss specifies it for the VLT Micro Drive FC 51. In pressure measurement there are the MBS 3000 general purpose transmitter and the MBS 5100. Valves include the AB-QM pressure independent control valve in DN 15 to DN 250, the EVR 25 servo-operated solenoid valve and the ICV pilot-operated valve for industrial refrigeration.

Where Danfoss equipment is used

District cooling and chilled water plants, air handling units, booster and irrigation pump stations, desalination and wastewater works, ammonia and CO2 refrigeration plants, food storage and marine engine rooms are the usual places. Demand in the GCC is driven largely by cooling and water.

Ordering Danfoss parts: what we need

Every Danfoss product has a code number, and drives also carry a long type code string on the label. Send both. For a drive we need the motor power and current, the mains voltage, enclosure rating, any fieldbus or option card and the filter class. For an MBS transmitter give the pressure span, output signal, pressure connection and electrical connection. For valves give the size, connection type, coil voltage where relevant and the refrigerant or medium.
