Brand:

SKF 6309-2Z/C3 Shielded Deep Groove Ball Bearing, 45 mm

Description

A shielded 45 mm bore deep groove bearing with extra clearance for motors and pumps

The SKF 6309-2Z/C3 is a single row deep groove ball bearing of the 63 series with a 45 mm bore, 100 mm outside diameter and 25 mm width, fitted with non-contact metal shields on both sides and with C3 radial internal clearance. The 63 series is the heavier section of the two standard deep groove series and is widely used on the drive end of medium size electric motors, in pumps, fans, gearboxes and conveyor drives. It carries radial load and axial load in both directions, is easy to mount and needs little maintenance.

The shields keep the factory grease in and larger debris out without adding seal friction, so the bearing keeps the high-speed capability of the open type: the reference speed is 15,000 r/min and the limiting speed 7,500 r/min. SKF lists it in the Explorer class, made to ISO tolerance class 6 widths and with SKF-specified steel.

Selection: shields, seals and clearance

The suffix 2Z means a shield on both sides, which suits clean to moderately dusty conditions and high speed. For wet or heavily contaminated sites SKF offers contact seals such as 2RS1, which keep grease in and water out better but run at a lower speed, and low-friction seals; see the SKF 6206-2RS1 for a sealed 62 series example. The C3 suffix means radial internal clearance greater than Normal, which is chosen when the inner ring runs warmer than the outer ring, when the shaft has a heavy interference fit, or in electric motors that run hot. Do not mix up clearance classes when replacing a bearing, because a C3 bearing used in place of a Normal one changes noise, temperature and life.

Because standard deep groove bearings are not electrically insulated, ask about insulated or hybrid variants if the motor is fed by a variable frequency drive. Before ordering, confirm the shield or seal type, clearance class, grease and cage, and the operating temperature. All ball bearings on this site are grouped under Ball Bearings.

About brand

SKF is the Swedish bearing manufacturer founded in Gothenburg in 1907. The company was built on the self-aligning ball bearing developed by engineer Sven Wingquist, who became its first managing director. Today SKF also makes seals, lubrication systems, condition monitoring equipment and maintenance tools.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list SKF bearings, greases, automatic lubricators, condition monitoring sensors and maintenance tools, and supply them to maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC by designation.

SKF company profile

Established 1907, Gothenburg, Sweden; first factory built in 1908
Founding product Sven Wingquist's self-aligning ball bearing
Name From Svenska Kullagerfabriken, Swedish for "Swedish Ball Bearing Factory"

Milestones

  • 1907: Sven Wingquist's self-aligning ball bearing is patented and SKF is founded in Gothenburg.
  • 1908: The first factory is built.
  • 1912: SKF is represented in 32 countries.
  • 1926: SKF sets up AB Volvo as a subsidiary to build cars; the first production car follows in 1927.

An SKF designation describes the bearing exactly. In 6205-2RSH/C3, "62" is a light-series deep groove ball bearing, "05" means a 25 mm bore (05 × 5), "2RSH" means rubber seals on both sides, and "C3" means internal clearance larger than normal, which motors often need because the inner ring runs warmer than the outer. Choosing the right grease matters just as much: a general grease such as LGMT 2 suits most motors, while heavy loads, high temperatures or slow speeds need an EP, high-temperature or high-viscosity grade.

Where SKF products are used

In Oman and the GCC, SKF bearings, lubricants and tools are used by maintenance teams in oil and gas, power and desalination, cement, mining, steel, water and food plants, and by motor and pump repair workshops.
