TopWorx K-Series Valve Controllers K1 K2 K5L K7L

Description

Explosion-protected position monitors for hazardous areas

The TopWorx K-Series valve controllers cover the K1 and K2 families, with flameproof and intrinsically safe versions of K1P/K1S, K2P/K2S, K1/K2 Ex ia and K5L/K7L. The K5L/K7L section of the manual states that the unit monitors the position of on/off or modulating rotary or linear equipment and can also pneumatically control on/off equipment such as valve actuators, and that it is not suitable for multi-turn rotating equipment. The manual is a certification-centred document with safe-use, cable-entry and cam-setting instructions for each version.

Choosing a version

Pick the version from the area classification and gas group, then the ambient temperature class. The T-class and the permissible ambient temperature range differ between EC/E codes, so the nameplate must be matched to the site. The manual includes safe-use warnings such as not opening the cover when an explosive atmosphere is present, keeping flame paths clean and undamaged, and repair only by TopWorx. Switch cams are adjusted by sliding them off the spline hub and rotating, and the K-Series 4-20 mA and HART transmitter manuals are separate documents.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the certification scheme needed (ATEX, IECEx or CSA), gas group and temperature class, ambient range, cable entry thread, switch and solenoid configuration and the drive shaft or lever for the actuator. The manual does not contain a price list or ordering codes.

About brand

TopWorx is an American maker of valve position monitors, limit switches and discrete valve controllers, based in Louisville, Kentucky. Its GO Switch leverless limit switches sense a target without contact and are built for harsh and hazardous locations. Emerson acquired TopWorx in July 2008, extending its automation offering to on/off valves.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list TopWorx products for automated valves in Oman and the GCC.

TopWorx company profile

Headquarters Louisville, Kentucky, USA
Ownership Emerson, since July 2008
Known for GO Switch leverless proximity limit switches
Product families GO Switch 70 Series, D-Series, K-Series, TV-Series and TX-Series discrete valve controllers, DVR valve position monitor, PD100 and PD200 smart positioners

TopWorx product series

The GO Switch 70 Series are leverless limit switches that sense a metal target without contact. Discrete valve controllers include the D-Series DXP, DXR and DXS, the TX-Series TXP and TXS, the TV-Series and the K-Series K1, K2, K5L and K7L.

The DVR is a valve position monitor and the PD Series PD100 and PD200 are smart valve positioners.

Valve controllers combine position sensing, solenoid valves and communication in one housing, which reduces wiring on automated valves. GO Switch sensors work without contact and suit dirty, wet or vibrating conditions.

Where TopWorx products are used

On-off and control valves in oil and gas, refineries, chemical and power plants and water treatment, including hazardous areas.
