Installation and set-up

The manual describes normal and reverse acting units, a direct NAMUR mount on a quarter-turn valve and indicator dome assemblies that can be turned for reverse-acting use. Targets are set after installation, with push-to-set or locking targets depending on the version. The valve should be cycled a few times before final tightening of the mounting hardware so that the shaft self-centres, and axial thrust on the shaft must be avoided. Conduit entries ship with plastic plugs, and permanent sealing devices must be fitted by the installer.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm TXP or TXS and the flat-top option, the switch or sensor option, the pneumatic block and port size, the hazardous-area certification and the actuator mounting pattern. The sheet states that detailed model numbers, data sheets and certifications are on topworx.com.

How the TopWorx TX-Series valve controllers work

A valve controller mounts on an actuator and shows the valve position, and its sensors send that position to the control system. The shaft inside the housing turns with the valve, and targets or cams on the shaft operate the switches or sensors. The visible indicator dome shows open or closed at a glance. Some models also hold a pneumatic pilot or control valve that directs air to the actuator, so a single unit commands and monitors the valve. The TXP has a cast aluminium housing and the TXS has a 316 stainless steel housing.

Where the TX-Series is used

  • Quarter-turn valves such as ball, butterfly and plug valves.
  • Linear valves with suitable actuators.
  • Process plants that need reliable position feedback to a control system.
  • Outdoor and corrosive sites, where the stainless TXS housing is chosen.

Selection checklist for the TX-Series

  • Housing: TXP aluminium or TXS 316 stainless steel, with standard or flat-top versions.
  • Sensing option: GO Switch, mechanical switch, inductive NAMUR sensor, proximity sensor or bus.
  • Switch rating: for example 3 mA to 3 A at 24 VDC for the hermetic GO Switch.
  • Bus option: AS-i or PROFIBUS where the plant uses them.
  • Integrated pneumatic pilot or control valve, if the unit is to command the actuator.
  • Temperature range of the chosen sensor, with GO Switch L from -60 to 105 degrees C.
  • Fasteners and shaft material: 304 stainless steel as standard, or 316 on request.
  • Terminal wire size of 0.2 to 2.5 mm2 and the conduit connection.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Mount the controller on a bracket to the actuator, using a direct NAMUR mount on quarter-turn valves. Cycle the valve a few times before the final tightening of the mounting hardware, so the shaft can centre itself. Set the targets after the installation, then check the open and closed signals at the control system. Tighten the housing bolts to the stated torque, keep the seals in good condition and avoid axial thrust on the shaft.

Requesting a quotation for the TopWorx TX-Series

Send the model code, housing, sensing option, voltage and actuator type. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Normal and reverse acting units

The manual describes normal and reverse acting units, and indicator domes that can be turned for reverse use. Confirm which action the valve needs before ordering.

Manual and revision

The Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manual covers all options of the range. Keep the manual with the plant records and check the revision before installation.

Choosing between GO Switch and mechanical switch sensing

The GO Switch is a sealed, non-contact sensor and suits applications with frequent cycling, vibration or a need for long life. Mechanical switches carry higher current and are common where the signal drives a relay or a small load directly. Inductive NAMUR sensors suit intrinsically safe loops with an isolator or barrier. Match the choice to the signal the control system expects and to the area classification.

Housing materials and corrosion protection

The TXP housing is cast aluminium with a chromate conversion coating and an epoxy exterior finish that is rated for 1,000 hours of salt spray. The TXS housing in 316 stainless steel is intended for harsher marine and chemical environments. Seals are silicone or EPDM, so check the temperature range of the elastomer against the site.

Record keeping for valve position feedback

Record the model code, the sensor type and the set-up of each unit, so that a replacement can be configured to the same open and closed positions without delay.

About brand

TopWorx is the valve controls and limit switch brand of Emerson, based in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Its products mount on valve actuators to show whether a valve is open or closed, send switch or analog signals back to the control system and, in some models, operate the actuator pilot valve. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists products from the manufacturer's manuals and datasheets and quotes against the exact model code.

TopWorx product groups

The documents on this site cover GO Switch leverless limit switches, the D-Series, TX-Series, TV-Series and K-Series discrete valve controllers, the DVR valve position monitor and the PD Series smart valve positioner. Options in these documents include GO Switch, mechanical and inductive sensors, 4-20 mA and HART transmitters, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, AS-i, DeviceNet and PROFIBUS communication, integrated pilots and explosion-protected enclosures.

Ordering TopWorx products: what we need

Send the full model code from the nameplate or the datasheet nomenclature, the actuator make, mounting pattern and size, the supply voltage and signal type, the hazardous-area certification and the quantity. Many options cannot be combined, so we confirm the code against the manufacturer's documentation before quoting.
