Minimax Preaction Sprinkler Double Safety Sprinkler Unit

Description

Double safety against unwanted sprinkler discharge

A Minimax preaction sprinkler unit is a cast housing with two separately arranged sprinklers. Water is released only when both sprinklers have opened, so the damage from a sprinkler that is hit during building works is largely avoided. It suits server rooms, archives and other water-sensitive areas where extinguishing water should be sprayed only if there is a real fire.

Preaction sprinklers are installed in wet or dry sprinkler pipework in the same way as conventional sprinklers. Their electrical elements serve only for monitoring and fault display, and the release is purely mechanical. They can be wired to a monitoring panel that shows the operating status of one or several units.

Technical specifications

Parameter Specification

Hydraulics Low K factor and low minimum operating pressure
Monitoring FMZ 5000 fire detection and extinguishing control panel, or a small compact control panel with optical and audible indication at the sensitive area
Special design Preaction sauna sprinkler with two release temperatures, 141 C and 182 C
Ceiling finish Special covers conceal assembly openings
Approvals Depending on version, VdS Schadenverhuetung and FM Global

Function and applications

If sprinkler A opens, the spacer pipe drops, but the sealing cone stops water from leaving, and the incoming water (wet) or compressed air (dry) triggers the monitoring or pressure switch, which reports a fault. If sprinkler B opens alone, the float falls and the monitoring switch also reports. Only when A and B are both open does water leave through sprinkler B and fight the fire, while the fire alarm is raised by the alarm valve station upstream.

The brochure presents the unit as a simple alternative to a preaction dry system for small areas, which would need extra detection, a separate alarm valve station, more pipework and a dedicated compressed air supply. Retrofit into an existing wet or dry pipe network is straightforward. For the valve side of a water system, see the Minimax FSX deluge valve set.

What to confirm before ordering

The brochure does not list part numbers, K factors or ratings, so please send the pipework type (wet or dry), thread, ceiling type and finish, release temperature, the number of units and the monitoring panel wanted. We then request the matching data from Minimax.

About brand

Fire detection and extinguishing systems for industrial plants, data centers and logistics buildings are the business of Minimax, based in Bad Oldesloe, Germany. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Oman and lists Minimax fire control panels, detectors, a deluge valve set and the MxSysCon fire control configuration software, supplied with its licence dongle. We also take inquiries for Minimax fire protection components and spare parts identified by part number.

Minimax systems the software and parts belong to

The manufacturer's program covers fire detection and extinguishing control panels of the FMZ family and HELIOS aspirating smoke detectors. On the extinguishing side it builds deluge and other water-based systems, Minifog water mist, Oxeo inert gas and carbon dioxide systems, and spark extinguishing. Panel configuration software is tied to a specific panel generation. We did not find the name MxSysCon in the manufacturer's public documents, so the software version has to be checked against your panel type.

Ordering Minimax items: what we need

Send the Minimax part number, the type and firmware version of the control panel, and a photo of the panel label. For detectors, nozzles or valves, add the nameplate data and the approval the project specifies. Minimax systems are engineered per site, so a component is only correct when it matches the original system documents. We check that match for buyers across the GCC before the order is placed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a preaction sprinkler?
A housing with two sprinklers; water is released only when both open.
Does the electrical part release the water?
No, the electrical elements serve only for monitoring and fault display, and the release is purely mechanical.
Can it be added to an existing sprinkler system?
Yes, it can be connected to the pipework of an existing or planned wet or dry sprinkler system.
Where is it typically used?
Server rooms, switchgear, archives, libraries, museum rooms, sauna areas and similar water-sensitive spaces.
Which approvals does the brochure mention?
Depending on version, approvals from VdS Schadenverhuetung and FM Global.
