Description
Ex LED warning beacon with adjustable flash rate and four colours
The Cortem VSE series are LED warning lighting fixtures with flashing or fixed light for industrial signalling in Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22. Four LEDs on a single-circuit electronic plate work with a chromed aluminium internal reflector behind a borosilicate glass globe, giving 360 degree horizontal coverage. The flash rate is set with an internal DIP switch from 20 to 70 flashes per minute, or the unit can be set to fixed light. Cortem estimates a LED life of 100,000 hours, equal to 12 hours a day for 20 years.
Typical uses listed by Cortem are oil refineries, chemical plants, onshore and offshore facilities, loading jetties, combustible liquid depots, high buildings and aircraft hangars, with red, yellow, green or blue light chosen for the signal being given.

Codes, colours and flash setting
The code reads VSE-, then the colour letter (R red, Y yellow, G green, B blue), the supply (230 or 024) and L for flashing; the suffix F gives a fixed-light version, for example VSE-B024F. All eight standard flashing codes are 6 W, 2 kg and 232 x 125 x 125 mm.

Options and what to confirm before ordering
Accessories include NAV25IB (armoured) or NEV25IB (unarmoured) cable glands, an Ex or watertight control panel, and a version with three ISO M25 entries complete with two PLG2IB plugs (example VSE-R024L/S). Confirm the colour and the meaning assigned to it in the site signalling scheme, the supply voltage, flashing or fixed mode, the cable gland type and the ambient temperature. For obstruction-light duty on tall structures check the applicable aviation rules separately, because the datasheet describes this as a low-intensity night-time warning light.

About brand
Cortem is the Italian maker of explosion-proof and increased-safety electrical equipment: Ex d and Ex e lighting, enclosures, control stations, plugs and sockets, cable glands and signalling devices. Marco Rossi and Renato Gratton founded the company on 24 February 1968 in Villesse, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of north-east Italy. Cortem S.p.A. heads the Cortem Group, which also includes Elfit and the Fondisonzo foundry, and supplies onshore and offshore oil and gas, chemical and industrial plants.
