CHINT NL1-63 RCCB Residual Current Circuit Breaker

Description

A residual current circuit breaker for people and fire protection

The NL1-63 is a two- or four-pole residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) from CHINT. It has no overcurrent element, so it detects earth leakage and disconnects the circuit, and it must be backed by a miniature circuit breaker or fuse for overload and short-circuit protection. The CHINT catalog lists residual current breakers for housing, the tertiary sector and industry, to protect people against indirect contact, add protection against direct contact and reduce fire risk caused by insulation faults.

Choosing the sensitivity, wave form and time delay

The catalog ties each sensitivity to a duty. A 10 mA unit suits precision instrument circuits and bathrooms, 30 mA gives additional protection against direct contact, 100 mA is coordinated with the earthing system using IDn less than 50 divided by the earth resistance, and 300 or 500 mA protects against indirect contact and fire. Choose the wave form next: AC type for slowly rising sinusoidal leakage, type A where pulsed DC residual currents can occur, and the S and G/SI types where filters against spurious tripping from harmonics and transient surges are wanted. The S type provides total discrimination with a non-selective device placed downstream, and the catalog states stable behaviour with an 8/20 us surge of 3000 A.

Ambient temperature reduces the carrying current. For the 16 A frame the catalog allows 16 A at 40 degC, 11 A at 50 degC and 9 A at 55 degC, so a hot enclosure needs a larger frame or better ventilation.

Ordering code and what to confirm

The designation runs frame, poles, current, sensitivity, leakage type, breaking capacity and busbar or accessory suffix. Examples from the catalog are NL1-63 2P 16A 30mA A 6kA DBAX with code 527233 and NL1-63 4P 63A 30mA A 6kA DBAX with code 527342. Confirm the pole count and neutral arrangement, the load current, the required sensitivity, the leakage type and the upstream overcurrent device. A compact alternative that adds overcurrent protection is the

CHINT NXBLE-32 RCBO.

, and other makes are in the circuit breakers category.

About brand

CHINT is a Chinese electrical equipment group founded in 1984 that makes low-voltage distribution and control apparatus together with smart energy products. The group states that it operates in more than 140 countries and regions and employs over 40,000 people.

CHINT low-voltage distribution and control range

The IEC low-voltage catalog is organised into final, secondary and main power distribution plus industrial control. Typical lines include NXB miniature circuit breakers, NXBLE residual current breakers with overcurrent protection, NL1 residual current devices, NM1 and NM8N moulded case circuit breakers, NA1 air circuit breakers, NXZ automatic transfer switching equipment, NXU surge protective devices, NXC and NCH8 contactors, NXR thermal overload relays, and NP8 pushbuttons and ND16 indicator lights.

Requesting CHINT devices from Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists selected CHINT devices for switchboards, control panels and building services in Oman and the GCC. Each page quotes the manufacturer catalog data, so send the full designation with pole count, rated current and curve or coil voltage when asking for a quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the NL1-63 protect against overload?
No. An RCCB detects residual current only, so a miniature circuit breaker or fuse must be placed upstream for overload and short-circuit protection.
Which sensitivities are available?
The catalog lists 10 mA for the 2P 32 A and smaller versions, plus 30, 100, 300 and 500 mA.
What is the difference between type AC and type A?
Type AC trips on slowly rising sinusoidal residual current, while type A also trips on pulsed DC residual current, as described in the CHINT catalog.
Is a selective type offered?
Yes. The S types have a 150 to 500 ms break time and give discrimination with a non-selective device downstream; G/SI types trip between 10 and 300 ms.
How is it mounted?
On a 35 mm DIN rail with a fast clip, and it can be fed from the top or the bottom.
