CHINT NB1-63DC DC Miniature Circuit Breaker up to 1000 V
Description
A DIN-rail breaker rated up to 1000 V DC
The NB1-63DC is a DC miniature circuit breaker in the CHINT NB1 series, designed to protect circuits against overload and short-circuit currents on direct-current systems. Rated voltage reaches 1000 V and rated current reaches 63 A, which places it in photovoltaic strings, battery and charger circuits, telecom power plant and other DC distribution where an AC-rated breaker cannot be used.

Wiring polarity, derating and cable size
DC breakers are polarity sensitive in the way the circuit is wired. The catalog marks the breaker terminals with plus and minus and shows the supply as L+ and L-, with the DC supply usually grounded on the L- side, or at the neutral point M in a positive and negative supply system. Follow the printed wiring diagram for the 1P, 2P and 4P versions, because the number of poles in series sets the usable voltage: one pole for 250 V, two for 500 V, four for 1000 V.
The thermal element is calibrated at 30 degC. The temperature table in the catalog lets a 63 A breaker carry about 58.9 A at 50 degC and about 52.3 A at 70 degC, while at low temperature it carries more, for example 83.8 A at -35 degC. Altitude above 2000 m reduces the current further; the catalog example derates a 10 A breaker at 2500 m to 9 A. Recommended copper conductors run from 1 mm2 for 1 to 6 A, 1.5 mm2 for 10 and 13 A, 2.5 mm2 for 16 and 20 A, 4 mm2 for 25 A, 6 mm2 for 32 A, 10 mm2 for 40 and 50 A and 16 mm2 for 63 A.
Ordering and what to confirm
The catalog writes the designation as frame, poles, curve, current and voltage, for example NB1-63DC 2P C63A DC500V 6kA with article code 182726, NB1-63DC 1P C63A DC250V 6kA with code 182712 and NB1-63DC 4P C63A DC1000V 6kA with code 182740. Confirm the system voltage and the number of poles needed to reach it, the maximum prospective DC short-circuit current against the 6 kA rating, the polarity of the supply and the ambient temperature inside the enclosure. The catalog quotes an electrical life of 1,500 cycles, which is far below the mechanical figure, so allow for that if the breaker will also be operated as a switch. Browse the circuit breakers category for AC devices and other frames.

About brand
CHINT is a Chinese electrical equipment group founded in 1984 that makes low-voltage distribution and control apparatus together with smart energy products. The group states that it operates in more than 140 countries and regions and employs over 40,000 people.
CHINT low-voltage distribution and control range
The IEC low-voltage catalog is organised into final, secondary and main power distribution plus industrial control. Typical lines include NXB miniature circuit breakers, NXBLE residual current breakers with overcurrent protection, NL1 residual current devices, NM1 and NM8N moulded case circuit breakers, NA1 air circuit breakers, NXZ automatic transfer switching equipment, NXU surge protective devices, NXC and NCH8 contactors, NXR thermal overload relays, and NP8 pushbuttons and ND16 indicator lights.
Requesting CHINT devices from Seven Star LLC
Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists selected CHINT devices for switchboards, control panels and building services in Oman and the GCC. Each page quotes the manufacturer catalog data, so send the full designation with pole count, rated current and curve or coil voltage when asking for a quotation.
