Brand:

CHINT NXU-II Surge Protective Device, Class II

Description

A pluggable Class II surge protective device for incoming boards

The NXU-II is a plug-in surge protective device (SPD) from CHINT for lightning and switching surges on the incoming distribution board. The catalog lists it as a Class II device to IEC/EN 61643-11 with a replaceable protection module on a separate base, so a spent module can be changed without disconnecting or rewiring the line. A /F version adds a remote-signal contact.

Choosing Uc and the protection mode

The catalog gives a table tying the earthing system to the protection mode. For the TT and TN systems it lists the L-PE and N-PE mode for the 275 and 320 V versions and the L-N and N-PE mode for 3P+N and 1P+N, and it recommends the 440 V version for inductive loads. The IT system is covered with its own entry, so confirm the system and the maximum operating voltage of the grid in IEC 60364-5-534 before picking Uc. A backup fuse of the listed rating is required if the upstream protective device is larger.

Place the device as close as practical to the incomer, keep the connecting leads short, and use the /F version where a building management system should report a failed module. For heavier exposure the catalog family also lists other test classes, so ask if an installation needs a Class I device ahead of this one.

What to confirm before ordering

Send the earthing system, Uc, Imax, the pole configuration and whether the remote-signal contact is needed. A DIN-rail disconnector for the same board is the Schneider Acti9 iSW, and other protection gear sits in the electrical and power category.
