Automatic mains failure and prime-power control in one controller

The ComAp InteliLite 4 AMF 20 is a single gen-set controller for stand-by and prime-power applications. One hardware platform carries two applications: AMF (automatic mains failure, the default) and MRS (manual or remote start for prime power). It is the controller that sits in the door of a standby set, watches the mains, starts the engine, transfers the load and takes it back when the utility returns.

It adds a 3.2 inch monochrome display, a USB host and device port, a CAN port and two slots for plug-in modules. Engine ECU support is ready for Stage V and Tier 4 Final by default, and MultiECU support lets it talk to several J1939 devices at once, such as engine ECUs, battery chargers and AVRs. Cyber security is designed to ISA 62443 level 2 to 3 requirements.

Functions that matter on a standby panel

Load shedding and dummy load management, user-defined protections and setpoints, integrated PLC logic and a history log with user logins and configuration changes are provided. Geo-fencing works with the GPS module, an enhanced scheduler with a battery-backed clock exercises the set, and up to five languages can sit in one configuration. Switchable analogue inputs and a 5 V reference output simplify sensor calibration.

Choosing between InteliLite models

Pick the AMF 20 when the application is a single set with one mains source and the controller must carry both stand-by and prime-power logic. The AMF 25 on this site has the same single-set purpose; compare it before ordering if the project needs a different display or I/O. Check generator CT ratio (5 A), supply voltage and the mounting cut-out before ordering.

How the ComAp IL4AMF20BAA works

The controller measures the voltage and frequency of the mains and of the generator. If the mains fail, it starts the engine, waits for the generator to be stable, opens the mains breaker and closes the generator breaker. When the mains return and stay stable, it moves the load back and stops the engine after the cooling time. In the MRS application it starts the set on a manual or remote command.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the IL4AMF20BAA

Fit the controller in the door of the panel and wire the supply with a 4 A fuse. Wire the voltage and current inputs and the engine signals. Load the configuration with the PC software over USB. Test an automatic mains failure sequence. Check the history log from time to time.
