Axis D2110-VE Security Radar with 180 Degree Coverage
Description
A 24 GHz radar that detects people and vehicles in any light
The Axis D2110-VE is a network security radar that detects, classifies and tracks people and vehicles. It uses a phased-array FMCW sensor at 24.05 to 24.25 GHz with less than 100 mW EIRP, which Axis describes as license free, and covers 180 degrees horizontally. In the area monitoring profile the datasheet lists detection of a person at 3 to 60 m and a vehicle at 3 to 85 m, with 5600 m2 of coverage for persons and 11300 m2 for vehicles.
Radar does not depend on light, so it keeps working at night, in glare and in many poor-weather conditions, and its classification into humans, vehicles and unknown helps limit false alarms. The radar provides PoE out (802.3at Class 4, 30 W) to a second device, for example a camera for visual verification or a network horn speaker for deterrence. Coexistence logic allows two radars back-to-back for 360 degree coverage.

Choosing between area and road profiles and powering the extra device
The area monitoring profile suits yards, fence lines, rooftops and building perimeters; the road profile detects faster traffic at 30 to 60 m. The datasheet gives a recommended mounting height of 3.5 m and warns that other heights change the detection range, so confirm the height with the user manual when designing. Use the radar to cue a camera, for example by radar autotracking to a PTZ unit, so that the operator receives a visual check of each alarm.
If the PoE output is used, the radar itself needs a stronger supply: the datasheet specifies 802.3bt Type 3 Class 5 or an Axis 60 W midspan with a maximum of 38 W. Without the PoE output, 802.3at Class 4 is enough. The casing is IK08 rated, which is lower than the IK10 of some Axis cameras, so consider mounting height and protection in vandal-prone positions.
The Axis D2210-VE is a 61 GHz radar with 95 degree coverage and an integrated LED strip, and the Q1656-DLE is a camera with an integrated radar. Describe the area width, mounting height, power and the camera or speaker to be powered by the radar when requesting a quotation.
