Axis P1468-XLE Explosion-Protected 4K Bullet Camera for Zone 2 and Division 2
Description
A 4K bullet camera certified for Zone 2 and Division 2
The Axis P1468-XLE is an outdoor bullet camera that Axis designs and certifies for Zone 2 and Division 2 hazardous areas, with ATEX, IECEx and cULus certificates. It has a 1/1.2 inch sensor with 2.9 micrometre pixels and records 3840 x 2160 at up to 50/60 fps without WDR, or 25/30 fps with Forensic WDR. The varifocal 6.2 to 12.9 mm lens covers 108 to 49 degrees horizontally, with remote focus and zoom.
ARTPEC-8 and a deep learning processing unit run analytics on the camera. AXIS Object Analytics classifies humans and vehicles, with line crossing, object in area, time in area and PPE monitoring as trigger conditions, and the datasheet lists smoke alert and shock detection among the included applications. OptimizedIR with 850 nm LEDs and Lightfinder 2.0 keep the image usable at night.

What to confirm before ordering a Zone 2 camera
This model is certified for Zone 2 gas (T4) and Zone 21 dust (T135 degC), and for Division 2. It is not a flameproof Zone 1 device. If the area drawing shows Zone 1 or Division 1 around the camera position, a different model is required, so check the classification, gas group and temperature class with the plant safety engineer before ordering. The datasheet explains that Zone and Division 2 cameras rely on Ex e or non-incendive protection that prevents arcs and excessive temperatures.
Choose the lens range for the scene: the 6.2 to 12.9 mm lens suits gates, pipe racks and building corners at moderate distances. For long perimeters a PTZ or a narrower lens may be needed. Install the weather shield supplied, use the connector guard, and follow the certificate conditions for cable entries and terminal block wiring, since certificate numbers ending in X normally signal special conditions of use.
Standard outdoor cameras such as the Axis P1465-LE are not certified for these areas and should be used only outside the classified zone. State quantity, power source, storage and the video system in your enquiry so that the quotation covers the right accessories.

Typical applications in oil, gas and process sites
The P1468-XLE is aimed at areas where a flammable atmosphere is not expected in normal operation but may occur occasionally, which is the definition of Zone 2 and Division 2. Typical positions include tank farm perimeters, loading bays, wellhead and manifold areas classified as Zone 2, compressor and pump shelters, and the outer parts of processing units. The 4K sensor and the varifocal lens let one camera cover a wide scene while still giving enough detail to review events afterwards.
The analytics listed on this page support safety as well as security. PPE monitoring can help supervisors check that people entering a defined area wear the required equipment, while object in area and time in area triggers can flag people or vehicles lingering near critical plant. Smoke alert and shock detection add further event sources that can be routed to the control room.
Integration with the video management system
Because the camera supports ONVIF Profiles G, M, S and T as well as VAPIX, it can usually be added to the existing video management system without a separate platform. Confirm with the VMS integrator which analytics events and metadata the system will accept, and agree how alarms will be presented to operators. Zipstream helps limit bandwidth and storage when many cameras share a network across a large site. Where the plant uses a separate security network, plan the PoE switch location outside the classified area.
Site conditions in Oman and the GCC
Desert and coastal sites in Oman combine high ambient temperature, strong sunlight, dust and, near the coast, salt air and condensing humidity. The rated operating range, IP66/IP67 and NEMA 4X casing and the stated humidity range cover these conditions, but positioning still matters. Avoid pointing the camera towards the rising or setting sun, mount it where sand and spray do not build up directly on the window, and include periodic cleaning of the window in the site maintenance plan. Cable entries and conduit should follow the certificate conditions and the site hazardous area installation standard, and the installation record should be kept with the hazardous area dossier for inspection.
