Operating Principle of the EnerSys PowerSafe SBS EON
The positive plates of the EnerSys PowerSafe SBS EON are made from pure lead grids produced by a unique manufacturing process, while the negative plates are balanced against the positives to give optimum recombination efficiency. Separators are microporous glass mat with high absorption and stability, and the dilute sulphuric acid electrolyte is absorbed in the separator material, so the battery is classified as non-spillable. Self-regulating pressure relief valves prevent ingress of atmospheric oxygen, and flame arrestors are built into each bloc or cell for added operational safety.
EON Technology is what separates this range from a standard float battery. The summary states that it provides exceptional fast-charge acceptance and superior cyclic performance, which is useful in hybrid systems, in sites with unreliable mains, and in applications that charge and discharge the battery repeatedly instead of leaving it on float for years. The EnerSys PowerSafe SBS EON can be mounted in any orientation except inverted, and EnerSys recommends installing the SBS 320 to 3900 cells horizontally in cyclic or hybrid applications. A separate battery room is not required because the units are designed for use in cabinets or on stands close to the point of use. No water addition is needed and shelf life is up to two years at 20 degrees Celsius. The optional EnVision Connect system monitor is compatible with the SBS 150F, 170F, 190F and 210F types.
