Vaisala HMP110 Humidity and Temperature Probe
Description
Overview
Vaisala HMP110 is a miniature humidity and temperature probe that combines the proven HUMICAP thin-film capacitive sensor technology of Vaisala with a compact, cost-effective package. It measures 0 to 100 %RH and −40 to +80 °C, with relative humidity accuracy of ±1.5 %RH from 0 to 90 %RH at 0 to +40 °C and a stability of ±2 %RH over two years. The manufacturer describes it as a trouble-free transmitter for volume applications and for integration into other equipment, and every unit ships with a calibration certificate.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Vaisala HMP110 to OEM builders, laboratories, HVAC contractors and industrial plants in Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. Teams that already run the Vaisala HMT330 humidity and temperature transmitter on critical process points can use the Vaisala HMP110 where a smaller, lower-cost sensing point is enough, such as chambers, enclosures and equipment rooms.
Measurement Principle
The Vaisala HMP110 uses the latest-generation HUMICAP 180R sensor, a thin-film polymer capacitor whose capacitance changes in proportion to the relative humidity of the surrounding air. Water vapour is absorbed into and released from the polymer layer, and the electronics convert the capacitance into relative humidity. A Pt1000 RTD of class F0.1 per IEC 60751 measures temperature next to the humidity sensor, so that the humidity reading can be corrected for temperature and so that temperature is available as a second output.
From these two primary measurements the probe can calculate dew or frost point temperature, wet bulb temperature, absolute humidity, mixing ratio and enthalpy as optional parameters. The 180R sensor has good chemical tolerance, and the typical T90 response time is about 17 seconds with the plastic grid filter, 20 seconds with a membrane filter and about 60 seconds with the stainless steel sintered filter, which lets the buyer trade response speed against protection in dusty or contaminated air.
Engineering Design of the Vaisala HMP110
The Vaisala HMP110 has an AISI 316 stainless steel body with an M12 x 1 thread, a 12 mm diameter and a length of about 71 mm. The probe alone weighs 17 g and with a 0.3 m cable 28 g, which makes it easy to fit into small enclosures. The cable is detachable through a standard M8 four-pin quick connector, so installation, replacement and sensor swapping take minutes rather than hours. The body is classified IP65 when a filter other than the plastic grid is fitted.
Electrical options suit different control systems. The standard analog version provides two voltage outputs, selectable as 0 to 1 V, 0 to 2.5 V, 0 to 5 V or 1 to 5 V, and a separate loop power converter gives a 4 to 20 mA signal for humidity accuracy. A digital version offers a two-wire half-duplex RS-485 output with Modbus RTU and temperature accuracy up to ±0.1 °C near room temperature. Power consumption is only about 1 mA on average with a start-up time of one to four seconds, which suits battery-powered devices. Related models are the HMP110T temperature-only probe and the HMP110REF reference probe.
Key Features
The Vaisala HMP110 offers a useful mix of accuracy, size and flexibility:
- Miniature 12 mm stainless steel probe fits into small chambers, glove boxes, incubators and equipment enclosures.
- Relative humidity accuracy of ±1.5 %RH over 0 to 90 %RH, with factory calibration uncertainty of ±1.1 %RH and a certificate with each probe.
- Low power consumption and fast start-up make the probe a good choice for battery-powered data loggers and portable instruments.
- Detachable cable with an M8 quick connector allows fast field replacement and a choice of cable lengths.
- Three voltage output ranges, an optional 4 to 20 mA loop converter and optional RS-485 Modbus RTU connect to most PLCs and loggers.
- Optional calculated parameters include dew or frost point, wet bulb temperature, absolute humidity, mixing ratio and enthalpy.
- Compatible with the free Vaisala Insight PC software and the Indigo80 handheld indicator for configuration and field checks.
- Multiple filter options, from plastic grid to PTFE and sintered stainless steel, match the probe to dusty or chemically exposed air.
Industrial Applications
The manufacturer lists glove boxes, greenhouses, fermentation and stability chambers, data loggers and incubators as typical uses, together with integration into other manufacturers’ equipment. In Gulf conditions the same features suit server rooms and electrical switchrooms where condensation damages equipment, cold stores and food processing areas, pharmaceutical storage, laboratory chambers and the cabinets of control panels in Sohar, Duqm and Salalah industrial zones.
Seven Star LLC helps panel builders and facility teams select the HMP110 output option, cable length and filter, and supplies related duct and wall mounting accessories. For duct installations where a ready-made sensor is preferred, teams sometimes compare it with the Siemens QFM1660 duct humidity and temperature sensor, and for compressed air applications the CS Instruments FA 510 dew point sensor covers the dry end of the range. Ask for the Vaisala HMP110 datasheet to review the accessories and ordering codes.

About brand
Humidity is hard to measure well, and Vaisala has specialized in it since 1936. The Finnish company makes probes and transmitters for relative humidity, dew point, temperature, pressure and carbon dioxide in industrial processes. Seven Star LLC lists the Vaisala Indigo520 transmitter, HMP7 probe, HMT330 transmitter and DMT152 dew point transmitter, and sources Vaisala instruments for process plants in Oman and the GCC.
Vaisala product families
The Indigo line separates probe and transmitter. The Indigo520 takes two Indigo-compatible probes at once and offers four analog outputs, relays and Ethernet in a metal IP66 enclosure, with or without a touchscreen. The HMP7 humidity and temperature probe is one of the probes that connect to it. The HMT330 is the earlier one-piece humidity and temperature transmitter series, and the DMT152 is a compact transmitter for low dew points in dry gases.
