Kärcher HD 7/17 M Plus Mobile High-Pressure Cleaner

A portable three-phase cleaner for service vehicles and site work

The Kärcher HD 7/17 M Plus is a mobile cold water high-pressure cleaner from the middle class of the HD range. Kärcher describes it with a three-piston axial pump with hardened stainless steel pistons, automatic pressure relief and a three-phase motor, packaged at just 31.9 kg so one person can load it into a service vehicle.

It can be run upright or lying down. In horizontal operation the wheels are lifted off the floor, which Kärcher states gives maximum stability, and a push handle that retracts at the touch of a button shortens the machine for storage. The result is a tool that suits maintenance crews, workshops, contractors and facility teams who need professional pressure without a trolley-sized machine.

What is in the box and how it is built

The scope of supply is an EASY!Force spray gun, an 840 mm spray lance, a power nozzle and a Dirt blaster. Equipment printed by Kärcher includes a 10 m Premium quality high-pressure hose, the pressure cut-off and a high-quality brass cylinder head. The motor is a two-pole, air-cooled electric motor.

Automatic pressure relief protects the pump components when the gun is released, and integrated storage for the gun, lance and hose cuts set-up time. A PowerControl lance and several rotary nozzles are available as options, along with a petrol generator for sites without mains power, all listed by order number in the sheet.

Where the M Plus fits in the HD range

Choose the HD 7/17 M Plus when portability and a 400 V three-phase supply are the priorities. For higher flow or pressure on a trolley-class machine, step up to the super-class models; for a single-phase 230 V site supply, the compact class below is the one to look at.

Features and construction

Kärcher builds the HD 7/17 M Plus around a newly developed three-piston axial pump with reduced flow and pressure losses, driven by a two-pole air-cooled motor. The cylinder head is brass, and automatic pressure relief protects the high-pressure parts while the gun is closed and the machine is on standby. The EASY!Force gun is designed to reduce hand fatigue, and the EASY!Lock quick-release couplings are described by Kärcher as faster to connect than screwed fittings.

• Retractable push handle released by a button, for compact storage in a van or cupboard.
• Integrated storage for the gun, lance and hose, a holder for the cup foam lance, an EASY!Lock TR20 position for the power nozzle or a surface cleaner, and a compartment for the rotary nozzle.

Serviceability

The cylinder head can be reached through an opening in the underside of the machine and the electrical box by removing the cover, so routine service does not need a full strip-down. A large water fine filter sits in an easy-to-reach position and protects the pump from dirt particles. Check and clean it regularly, particularly where the water supply comes from a tank or a site standpipe carrying sand or scale.

Typical applications

Kärcher names vehicle cleaning, the construction and transport sectors, and industry as target areas. Examples include washing site vehicles and trailers, removing mud from excavator tracks and chassis, cleaning workshop floors and concrete aprons, rinsing machinery before maintenance, and cleaning façades or paving. The machine is a cold water unit with no heating, so oily grease may require a suitable cleaning agent or a hot water model.

Setting up on site

• Provide a 400 V, 50 Hz three-phase supply with a suitably rated protective device; check the plug and socket type against the machine before arrival.
• Connect to a water supply that can deliver the 700 l/h flow. The sheet gives a 3/4 inch inlet and a maximum inlet temperature of 60 °C.
• Keep the machine on a firm surface, away from standing water, and keep the power cable out of the spray zone. The cable is 5 m, so an extension, if used, must be rated for outdoor use.
• In summer heat avoid leaving the machine running with the gun closed for long periods, and store it out of direct sun. Protect it from frost where relevant.
• Test the pressure cut-off and the hose condition before each job, and replace damaged hoses and fittings rather than repairing them.
