Baldor ECP83770T-4 7.5 HP IEEE 841 Severe Duty Motor, 213T
Description
Overview
The Baldor ECP83770T-4 is a 7.5 horsepower severe duty motor from the Baldor-Reliance IEEE 841 chemical processing family, manufactured by ABB Motors and Mechanical Inc. It is a three-phase, four pole, totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) motor rated 1765 rpm at 460 V, 60 Hz, in a cast iron NEMA 213T frame. IEEE 841 is the recognised standard for severe duty motors in petroleum and chemical industry service, and motors built to it are expected to run for long periods in corrosive, wet and dirty process units with low vibration and high efficiency. This catalog number adds inverter duty capability and Class I Division 2 hazardous area marking, which makes it a good fit for pumps and fans in refineries and gas plants.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Baldor ECP83770T-4 and other Baldor-Reliance severe duty motors to oil and gas operators, refineries, petrochemical plants, EPC contractors and package builders in Muscat, across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. Many process packages engineered to American Petroleum Institute and IEEE practice specify IEEE 841 motors, and we help maintenance teams source exact replacements, with engineering support in Muscat.
Operating Principle
As general engineering background, a squirrel cage induction motor turns because the rotating magnetic field of the stator induces current in the rotor bars and the two fields interact to produce torque; the rotor runs slightly below synchronous speed by an amount called slip. For the four pole Baldor ECP83770T-4, synchronous speed is 1800 rpm at 60 Hz, and the typical performance data show the speed falling from 1798 rpm at no load to 1765 rpm at rated load. NEMA Design B starting characteristics give a locked rotor torque of 39.7 lb-ft, a pull-up torque of 30 lb-ft and a breakdown torque of 66.8 lb-ft, with a starting current of 63.5 A at 460 V and KVA code H.
When the Baldor ECP83770T-4 is fed from a variable frequency drive, motor speed follows the drive output frequency. Its nameplate defines the usable ranges for PWM inverter operation: constant torque from 1.2 to 60 Hz, variable torque from 0 to 60 Hz and constant horsepower from 60 to 90 Hz, with a maximum speed of 2700 rpm. Being inverter duty rather than merely inverter ready, it is intended for continuous drive operation across this range, which allows energy savings on pumps and fans and soft acceleration on conveyors and mixers.
Engineering Design of the Baldor ECP83770T-4
The Baldor ECP83770T-4 is built on a cast iron frame and end plates, with a rigid base in NEMA 213T dimensions, a 1.375 inch shaft and an overall length of 19.58 inches; the motor weight on the nameplate is 199 lb. Both bearings are 6307 ball bearings (ABMA 35BC03X30X) with Polyrex EM grease, the drive end bearing is locked, and a shaft slinger protects the bearing seal. The nameplate marks the enclosure as TE IP56. Three leads of 14 AWG are brought out for 460 V connection. Insulation is Class F, and the motor runs with a temperature rise of 54 °C at rated load and 67 °C at service factor load in a 40 °C ambient, a low rise that supports long insulation life.
For hazardous areas the Baldor ECP83770T-4 carries a Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C and D marking with temperature code T3C. Agency marks listed by the manufacturer include CSA (Canada and US), CSA EEV, CURUS EEV, UR and NEMA Premium, and the motor is RoHS compliant. The nominal efficiency is 91.7% with a guaranteed minimum of 90.2% and a power factor of 82. Note that this motor is wound for 460 V, 60 Hz only, so it is chosen for 60 Hz process packages or for supplies derived from drives, not for direct connection to a 415 V, 50 Hz network.
Key Features

- Class I Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D, temperature code T3C hazardous area marking.
- TEFC enclosure with IP56 marking on the nameplate.
- Locked drive end bearing and shaft slinger, 6307 ball bearings at both ends.
- Low temperature rise of 54 °C at rated load with Class F insulation.
Industrial Applications
IEEE 841 motors are the usual choice for process pumps, cooling tower fans, air cooler fans, compressors, blowers, mixers and agitators in refineries, gas processing plants, petrochemical complexes, fertiliser plants and pipeline stations. The Baldor ECP83770T-4 at 7.5 HP suits API process pumps for chemical injection and transfer, lube oil and seal oil pumps, small fin fan coolers and HVAC equipment within classified areas, and its inverter duty rating supports pumps and fans controlled by a VFD for flow regulation. The cast iron construction, IP56 marking and slinger help the motor tolerate washdown, rain and corrosive atmospheres.
In Oman and the GCC the Baldor ECP83770T-4 is relevant for oil and gas facilities in the interior fields, the refineries and petrochemical plants at Sohar and Duqm, LNG and gas processing installations, and desalination and water treatment plants along the coast. Seven Star LLC supplies the Baldor ECP83770T-4 together with drives and spares for these sites, and can help compare nameplates when an existing severe duty motor must be replaced quickly.

About brand
American-built process skids, pumps and fans arrive in the Gulf with NEMA frame motors, and a large share of those carry a Baldor nameplate. The brand was founded in 1920 in Fort Smith, USA, and its focus is industrial electric motors and drives. Seven Star LLC lists the Baldor EM3615T, a 5 HP NEMA Premium TEFC motor in 184T frame, and supplies Baldor motors in Oman on inquiry.
Baldor NEMA motors and the EM3615T
The catalog number is the key to a Baldor motor. EM3615T identifies a 5 HP, totally enclosed fan cooled motor on a 184T frame with NEMA Premium efficiency, as shown in our listing. Motors made in recent years may carry Baldor-Reliance on the nameplate. A NEMA frame fixes shaft height, shaft diameter and foot hole pattern, so a like-for-like replacement drops onto the same base.
Ordering Baldor motors: what we need
Send the catalog number and the spec number from the nameplate, plus power, speed, voltage, frequency, frame, enclosure and mounting. A nameplate photo is best. Sites in the GCC run on 50 Hz, so tell us the supply voltage and frequency and we check the nameplate ratings in the manufacturer data for that catalog number.
