Identifying the right Cummins generator part
Cummins parts are tied to the individual engine build, not just to the engine family. The engine dataplate carries the engine serial number and the CPL (control parts list) number, and together they identify the fuel pump, injectors, turbocharger and gasket specification fitted at the factory. Part numbers are also superseded over time, so a number copied from an old pump or a worn label may no longer be current. We check each number against the manufacturer documentation and tell you when it has been replaced by a later one.
Engine parts and control parts
Mechanical items such as fuel pumps, starters and gasket sets are matched by engine serial number. Control items are matched differently. A display or controller assembly has to suit the generator set model, the generation of the control system and the configuration used on that set. For a starter motor, confirm the system voltage as well.
What to send with a generator spare parts inquiry
Send the part number, the engine model and serial number, the generator set model and a photo of the dataplate. Inquiries from other GCC countries are handled in the same way.
What to include in your inquiry
These details let us quote the right item the first time.
- Required power (kVA or kW)
- Voltage and frequency
- Backup time, for UPS and batteries
- Engine or generator model and serial number, for spare parts
- Site conditions (ambient temperature, indoor or outdoor)
- Quantity
Missing some of them? Send what you have. A nameplate photo or an old part number is enough to start.

Frequently Asked Questions
Both are stamped on the engine dataplate, a metal plate fixed to the engine itself. Its position varies with the engine family, so check the operation manual if it is not obvious. The plate on the generator set frame or canopy is a different one: it gives the set model and set serial number, which are needed for control and alternator parts.
There are two common reasons. The part may carry the number of the component maker, as fuel pumps, starters and turbochargers often do, and not the Cummins number. Or the Cummins number has been superseded by a later one. In both cases the engine serial number allows the current part number to be traced in the manufacturer documentation.
The hardware can, but a controller also holds a configuration: nominal voltage and frequency, current transformer ratio, engine type, alarm and shutdown set points, and input and output assignments. A new unit must be configured to match the set before it is put into use. Record the settings of the old controller if it still powers up, and send us the set model.
Confirm the system voltage, 12 V or 24 V, the mounting flange pattern, the number of pinion teeth and the direction of rotation. Starters that look alike can differ in any of these. The safest reference is the Cummins part number for the engine serial number, with the number on the old starter body as a cross-check.
On engines built with a separate cylinder head for each cylinder, the gasket set is supplied per head, so the quantity depends on how many heads are being removed. It normally covers the joints disturbed when that head comes off. It is not a full overhaul set. Tell us the scope of the repair and the engine serial number so the right sets can be listed.
