Brand:

Pixsys ATR124 PID Controller 32×74 mm, NFC, Modbus RTU

Description

ATR124 is the entry model of the Blue Line from Pixsys: a PID temperature and process controller in the compact 32×74 mm front-panel format. One configurable analogue input accepts thermocouples, RTDs, NTC/PTC probes, mA, volt and potentiometer signals, and the controller can be configured from a smartphone over NFC without wiring any power to it.

A small panel controller that is set up by phone instead of by keypad

The ATR124 sits in a 28.5 x 70.5 mm panel cut-out and is only 53 mm deep in its box,. The datasheet notes that the 24 to 230 V AC/DC supply of the -ABC versions lets one code cover several supply types, which helps stock management.

Configuration is the feature that sets the Blue Line apart. When the controller is read by an NFC-V reader it behaves as a vicinity card to ISO/IEC 15693 at 13.56 MHz, which lets the MyPixsys app on an Android phone write the whole parameter set. iOS users need the separate BT-NFC adapter (code 2000.35.099). The keypad, an optional memory card and the LabSoftview PC software are the other ways to load parameters.

Features listed in the datasheet and manual

  • Universal analogue input with 16-bit resolution: thermocouple K, S, R, J, T, RTD and thermistor probes, 0-10 V, 0/4-20 mA, 0-60 mV and potentiometer.
  • Control algorithms ON-OFF with hysteresis, P, PI, PID and PD with proportional time; manual, automatic or once-only tuning.
  • Heating/cooling double PID with cooling-fluid presets (air, oil, water) and a dead band function.
  • Alarm modes: absolute, band, high or low deviation, optional manual reset and loop-break alarm.
  • Soft-start by gradient or fixed output percentage.

Choosing the right ATR124 code

The datasheet lists three ordering codes and the manual describes four versions. ATR124-ABC is one analogue input, two relays and one digital output on 24 to 230 V AC/DC; ATR124-ABC-T keeps one relay and adds the RS485 port. ATR124-AD and ATR124-AD-T repeat the same two arrangements on 12 to 24 V AC/DC. Choose -T only if a PLC or SCADA must read the process value; the serial port replaces the second relay.

The manual calls the ATR124 the new generation of the ATR121 series. If you need two digital inputs, a dual 4+5 digit display or open/close valve logic in the same footprint, look at the ATR144 instead.

Installation and operation notes from the manual

Keep control wiring apart from power wires, avoid contactors and motors near the controller and fit a mains filter on the machine supply. Ground sensor cable shields at one end only; a two-wire RTD needs terminals 10 and 12 linked.

For a heating/cooling loop configure the command output as heating PID and use alarm 1 as the cooling output. The p.b.m multiplier (1.00 to 5.00) scales the cooling band; presets give 1.00 for air, 1.25 for oil and 2.50 for water. Tuning can be automatic, manual or run once at the next restart.

Typical uses in Gulf plants

Typical loops are ovens, packaging and plastics machines, laboratory heaters and small boilers. Note the 0 to 45 °C operating limit when the panel sits in a hot Gulf plant room, and fit the gasket, since only the front panel is IP65.

Frequently asked questions

Can ATR124 be programmed without power?

Per the manual the controller acts as an NFC vicinity card at 13.56 MHz, so the MyPixsys app on Android can write configuration through a reader; iOS needs the BT-NFC adapter.

Which sensors does the analogue input accept?

Thermocouples K, S, R, J, T; RTD and thermistor probes; 0-10 V, 0/4-20 mA, 0-60 mV; 1 to 150 kΩ potentiometers.

Does ATR124 have serial communication?

Only the -T versions, with an isolated RS485 port speaking Modbus RTU as slave, address 1 to 254.

What is the panel cut-out?

28.5 x 70.5 mm for the 32 x 74 mm front, panel thickness 2 to 8 mm.
