Siglent SDS804X HD 70 MHz 4-Channel 12-Bit Oscilloscope

SDS804X HD is the 70 MHz, four-channel member of the Siglent SDS800X HD series: a digital storage oscilloscope built on 12-bit converters sampling up to 2 GSa/s, with a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen and a 70 µV rms noise floor.

12-bit resolution at entry-level bandwidth

Many scopes in this bandwidth class use 8-bit converters. The SDS800X HD series uses 12-bit ADCs at up to 2 GSa/s, four bits more resolution for small signals; Siglent quotes an effective number of bits of 8.4 (typical, 24.99 MHz input) and a typical noise floor of 70 µV rms at 1 mV/div, full bandwidth.

Sample rate scales with channels in use: 2 GSa/s on one channel, 1 GSa/s on two and 500 MSa/s on four, with memory of 50, 25 and 10 Mpts per channel for the 70 MHz and 100 MHz models. The SPO display, history recording of up to 80,000 frames and sequence acquisition of up to 80,000 segments are shared with the other models in the series.

Operating notes

Specifications are not guaranteed unless the calibration period is current and the scope has run for 30 minutes at 18 to 28 °C. Because there is no internal 50 Ω termination, use an external 50 Ω terminator for fast-edge sources. The SAG1021I AWG is isolated and USB-powered, outputting up to 25 MHz and ±3 V according to the datasheet, with waveforms edited in the EasyWave PC software.

Where 12-bit helps in practice

Low-level sensor outputs, shunt current waveforms, power-supply ripple and audio-range signals benefit from the extra vertical resolution, while 70 MHz bandwidth is enough for PLC, drive and control electronics. Calibration benches and technical colleges in the Gulf can use it as a capable four-channel teaching scope. It is a bench instrument rated 0 to 40 °C, with no ingress or hazardous-area rating printed.

Selection and installation notes

Test and measurement instruments are selected from the accuracy, the range and the interfaces the work needs. Allow the warm-up time, use leads and probes rated for the voltage and category of the circuit, keep the inputs inside the stated limits and keep the calibration current according to your quality system. Record the settings used for any test that must be repeated later.
