Enerpac RP120BP 120 Ton Hydraulic Rail Puller, 6.5 in Stroke

Description

RP120BP is an Enerpac hydraulic rail puller rated at 120 tons with a 6.5 in (165.1 mm) stroke. It closes the gap between two rail ends so they can be welded, and it is powered from the hydraulic output of a truck power take-off (PTO) at 5 GPM and 2000 psi. A compact alloy steel body, a swing arm that clamps the rail bracket and a center beam that swings out of the way allow quick setup on a rail line.

Pulling the gap closed for rail welding

In continuous welded rail work the two rail ends must be brought together before welding, especially when rail has to be stressed. The RP120BP sits on the rail, clamps the web, and the pull cylinders close the gap while the operator reads the pull force on the integrated tonnage gauge. Enerpac says the swing arm eliminates the need for separate jaws and wedges, and the operator controls are positioned safely away from the work area.

Because the puller needs no disassembly for transport or storage, it is stored and carried in the open position, with the pull cylinders fully extended and the carrying beam fully retracted. That allows it to be hoisted directly off a weld truck and lowered over the ball of the rail at the next weld without adjustment, with a red arrow locator to centre it over the rail gap.

Key features as printed in the datasheet

  • Versatile design for quick and easy setup when stressing rail.
  • Compact alloy steel design requires no disassembly for transport or storage.
  • Swing arm clamps the bracket, eliminating separate jaws and wedges.
  • Center beam swings up and out of the way.
  • Operator controls are positioned safely away from the work area; tonnage and PTO pressure gauges are fitted.

Selection and ordering guide

The product page and manual describe one model, RP120BP, with a 120 ton capacity, so the choice is between this puller and a larger or smaller rail tool from the Enerpac range, which is not covered in these documents. Check the rail section and bracket the puller will clamp, and the PTO supply: the puller must be fed 2000 psi at 5 GPM, and the manual warns that the PTO setting must be checked before connecting hoses.

The page prints a metric capacity value that appears inconsistent, so this page quotes the 120 ton figure from the instruction sheet. Weight is 1160 lbs (about 526 kg, derived), so plan hoisting.

Installation and operation notes

Operating sequence from the manual: lower the puller with the red arrow over the rail gap; connect the PTO pressure and tank lines and turn on the PTO set to 5 GPM; shift the beam control valve to extend and turn the speed valve clockwise to close the swing arms; close the load lock valve; pull the beam lock pin, retract and lift the beam upright, and lock it with the pin. Then shift the pull control valve to PULL and turn the speed control clockwise until the gap closes, watching the tonnage gauge. Turning the speed control counter-clockwise slows the pull for the final stages.

The manual warns: never exceed 2000 psi input, wear goggles and protective clothing, and stand clear of the direction of force. Do not remove rail anchors or clips while the puller is under tension, because the grips could lose hold and the puller could slide rapidly along the rail. Relieve pressure by opening the load lock valve with the PTO off, and never disassemble hydraulic connections to release trapped pressure; the troubleshooting guide gives the correct procedure with the release screw.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

The puller is a rail-construction and maintenance tool. Rail projects across the Gulf, such as freight and passenger lines, depend on welded rail joints, so a hydraulic puller is relevant to track laying and rail repair crews. That is a general observation; the Enerpac documents do not name regions or projects.

Compatible accessories and related items

Maintenance in the manual: lubricate pivot points annually with anti-seize compound, keep swing arm and clamp bracket contact surfaces clean and oiled, and inspect and clean the grip teeth before each use. Enerpac refers to its website for repair parts.

Frequently asked questions

What capacity does the Enerpac RP120BP have?

120 tons with a 6.5 in (165.1 mm) stroke, powered at 5 GPM and 2000 psi from a PTO.

How is it powered?

By the hydraulic output of a truck PTO. The manual says never to exceed 2000 psi or 5 GPM input, or the booster will be damaged.

Does it need disassembly for transport?

No. It is stored and transported in the open position, with the pull cylinders extended and the beam retracted, and can be hoisted onto the rail.

What is the main safety rule?

Do not remove rail anchors or clips while the puller is under tension, and stay clear of the line of the pull.

About brand

Enerpac is a global brand of high-pressure hydraulic tools and controlled force products for lifting, bolting and positioning heavy loads. Its parent, Enerpac Tool Group, was founded in 1910 and is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Enerpac products with the official instruction sheet attached to each product page, for maintenance, construction and heavy lifting teams in Oman and the GCC.

Enerpac product series

Bolting tools include the W4000X low-profile hydraulic torque wrench, the RSL3000 torque wrench for 4176 Nm, the HMT3500 modular torque wrench drive unit and the TFA12TEMIN flange alignment tool for wind tower flanges.

Lifting and pulling tools include the TJP308 33 ton toe jack, the CR30S cribbing ring set for RCS302 cylinders and the RP120BP 120 ton rail puller. Pumps include the WAP15008D air-driven hydraulic pump, the SFP837MD diesel split-flow pump with eight outlets for synchronised lifting and the SFPKMN master network control panel for SFP pumps.

Where Enerpac tools are used

Ordering Enerpac products: what we need

Send the Enerpac model number. Otherwise, for torque wrenches give the bolt size and torque, for cylinders and jacks the capacity, stroke and collapsed height, and for pumps the power source, number of outlets and flow. Hydraulic tools must be used with pumps, hoses and gauges rated for the same pressure.
