Brand: Liquid Controls
Liquid Controls MA-Series LPG and Ammonia PD Meters
Description
Class 10 and class 12 meters for LPG and anhydrous ammonia delivery
The Liquid Controls MA-Series is a family of rotary positive displacement meters for the transfer of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and, in the larger MA sizes, anhydrous ammonia (NH3). The manufacturer calls its class 10 and class 12 meters the industry standard for safe and accurate delivery of LPG and ammonia from bobtail trucks, dispensers and bulk plants. The same product page lists the MSA-Series, which carries the same meter element in a steel case with ANSI flanges for higher-flow LPG transfer.
The measuring principle is the tri-rotor design used throughout the Liquid Controls range: a blocking rotor and two displacement rotors turn in synchronized relationship without metal-to-metal contact in the chamber, which is the reason the manufacturer gives for sustained accuracy and fewer recalibrations. MA meters are rated to 350 psi (24 bar) and are normally fitted with an electronic register such as the LCR.iQ, a strainer, a vapour or air eliminator and a preset valve.

The MA-4 serves low-flow LPG dispensing and bottle filling, the MA-5 lower-flow LPG, the MA-7 truck-mounted bobtail delivery and anhydrous ammonia, and the MA-15 bulk LPG metering. For the MSA meters the product page prints a maximum pressure of 350 psi next to a 300 psi rating, so confirm the permitted pressure for those two sizes.
Selecting an MA meter system
A complete LPG bobtail system pairs the meter with a register, strainer, air or vapour eliminator and a one- or two-stage preset valve; the brochure shows an MA-7 class 10 system built this way. Select the size from the flow rate the pump delivers, confirm the class and seal material for propane or ammonia, and decide whether the register must print tickets, connect to a fleet system or control the valve. Wherever hazardous-area equipment is needed, check the approvals for the register and meter combination.
How the Liquid Controls MA-Series works
Liquid fills the measuring chamber and turns three rotors. A blocking rotor and two displacement rotors turn together without metal-to-metal contact. Each turn passes a fixed volume, and the register counts the turns.
Where the MA-Series is used
- LPG bobtail trucks
- LPG dispensers
- LPG bulk plants
- Anhydrous ammonia delivery
- Propane and butane transfer

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the MA-Series
Fit a strainer upstream of the meter. Fit a vapour or air eliminator ahead of it. Add a preset valve and a register. Fill the line slowly and vent the air. Clean the strainer at regular intervals.

About brand
Liquid Controls is the maker of the original tri-rotor positive displacement flow meter, a design patented in 1954 and first used by the U.S. Air Force, and today an IDEX Energy brand. Its meters measure refined fuels, aviation fuel, LPG, ammonia, crude oil and industrial liquids for custody transfer, and the LCR.iQ register controls and records the delivery. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies these meters and registers for fuel depots, LPG plants and tanker fleets in Oman.\n\n
Liquid Controls products listed here
\n\nThis page groups the M-Series meters for refined fuels, aviation fuel and bulk loading, the MA-Series meters for LPG and anhydrous ammonia, and the LCR.iQ electronic register that sits on the meter. Datasheets and brochures are linked on each product page.\n\n
Where tri-rotor meters are used
\n\nTypical uses are truck-mounted fuel delivery, LPG bobtail delivery, aviation refuelers, bulk plant and terminal loading of tanks, railcars and ships, and industrial transfer of syrups, solvents and oils. The manufacturer points to sustained accuracy, because there is no metal-to-metal contact in the measuring chamber.\n\n
What to send with an enquiry
\n\nSend the liquid and its viscosity, flow range, line pressure and temperature, flange size, seal material, register type and the weights and measures approval your authority requires. For a replacement, send the meter model and serial number from the type plate.
