Veeder-Root Mag Plus In-Tank Probe for LPG

Description

Media-isolated Mag Plus probe for LPG inventory

The Veeder-Root Mag Plus in-tank probe for LPG monitors liquefied petroleum gas (propane) in underground and aboveground tanks. It is ordered as 0846397-6xx, a stainless steel probe with a high-grade polymer canister, with no water detection, and it provides inventory measurement only, with no leak detection.

The installation kits are labelled LPG-ISO, Veeder-Root’s media-isolated arrangement for this probe. Kit 0333083-xxx uses a 1.5 in float and kit 0333082-xxx a 2.0 in float, both with 5, 10 or 20 ft cable lengths. The datasheet states a working pressure of 375 psi, probe lengths from 48 to 144 in, and tank diameters from 42 to 138 in.

How the LPG probe differs from the fuel probes

This probe has no water float, because water detection is not part of the LPG configuration, and no leak-test capability. The 375 psi working pressure applies to the LPG-ISO installation. The datasheet does not give a temperature-accuracy table for this variant, so only the operating range is stated here.

LPG tanks are often larger-diameter vessels, and the datasheet limits the diameter range to 42 to 138 in with probes up to 144 in, so check tank diameter and the available probe length before ordering. As with the other Mag Plus probes, the probe connects to the TLS-450PLUS, TLS4, TLS4B or older TLS-350 and TLS-300 consoles through the interface shown in the compatibility table.

What to confirm before ordering

  • Tank diameter and orientation, and probe length.
  • Float size: 1.5 in or 2.0 in kit, and cable length (5, 10 or 20 ft).
  • Inventory-only expectation: no water detection or leak testing is available on this variant.
  • Console and probe module, and the local installation and approval requirements for LPG tanks.

How the Veeder-Root Mag Plus LPG probe works

The probe is a long stainless steel tube mounted vertically in the tank. A float with a magnet rides on the liquid surface and slides along the tube. The probe sends a pulse along a magnetostrictive wire and measures the time it takes for the return signal from the magnet’s position, which gives the liquid level with an accuracy of 0.03 in. A temperature-sensing part is included so that the console can correct the volume. In the LPG-ISO arrangement the electronics are isolated from the liquid, so the probe measures inventory only.

Where the Mag Plus LPG probe is used

  • Underground LPG tanks.
  • Aboveground propane tanks.
  • Distribution depots and bottling plants.
  • Autogas stations.
  • Sites that need an accurate tank inventory report.

Selection checklist for the Mag Plus LPG probe

  • Probe length of 48 to 144 in.
  • Tank diameter of 42 to 138 in.
  • Cable length of 5, 10 or 20 ft.
  • Working pressure of 375 psi.
  • Operating range of -40 to +122 degrees F.
  • Console compatibility, such as TLS-450PLUS or TLS4.
  • Inventory only, with no water detection and no leak detection.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Choose the probe length to match the tank diameter, and fit the kit and the float as shown in the datasheet. Install it through the riser with the sealing parts supplied, and run the cable in a conduit to the console. Set up the probe in the console with the tank chart, and check the reading against a manual gauge. The probe needs a compatible console, so check the input module. Record the probe serial number, the tank number and the float type for the site documents.

Requesting a quotation for the Veeder-Root Mag Plus LPG probe

Send the tank diameter, the probe length and the console type. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Difference from the fuel probes

This probe has no water float and no leak test capability, because the LPG configuration is for inventory only.

Console capacity

The TLS-450PLUS takes up to 64 probes, the TLS4 takes 12 and the TLS-300i takes 4.

Resolution

The resolution is 0.002857 in per sample, which gives a smooth inventory curve.

Probe records

Record the part number, the float and the cable length on the tank monitoring sheet.

Ordering the MAGPLUS-LPG probe

When you order the MAGPLUS-LPG probe, state the tank diameter, the probe length, the float size and the cable length. Also name the console and its probe input module, so the quotation covers every part that the tank monitoring system needs for LPG inventory measurement.

Float size choice

The kit with the 1.5 in float and the kit with the 2.0 in float suit different tank fittings, so confirm the riser opening before ordering.
