Swan AMI Turbiwell Turbidity Analyzer for Water and Water-Steam Cycles

Description

Contact-free turbidity measurement for potable water, effluents and steam cycles

The Swan AMI Turbiwell measures turbidity in potable water, surface water, effluents and water-steam cycles. It can also serve other liquids whose turbidity correlates with a suspended solid or an emulsified liquid, for example oil in water, using the ppm calculation described in the manual. The measurement is nephelometric: the detector reads light scattered at 90 degrees from a beam that strikes the water surface.

The turbidimeter is non-contact, which avoids fouling of the optical surfaces. The manual lists three models. The AMI Turbiwell 7027 uses an infrared LED according to ISO 7027, the AMI Turbiwell W/LED uses a white-light LED as an approved alternative to US EPA 180.1, and the AMI Turbiwell Power is a steel-panel variant with the infrared LED.

Configurations and options

The 7027 and W/LED models are offered with automatic or manual drain valve, a sample degasser, a deltaT flow sensor, a flow controller option and a version on a small panel with a remote transmitter. That small PVC plate is 400 x 420 mm and weighs 3.5 kg. The Power model has a flow meter as standard and is available with an automatic or manual drain valve.

The sample enters at the inlet, where a constant head gives a constant flow into the measuring chamber and removes air bubbles. Excess sample runs to waste, and the chamber is calm while the LED beam hits the surface. A drain valve empties the chamber for cleaning or verification, and three verification kits (low turbidity, high turbidity and liquid) are available as options.

Choosing the model

Pick the 7027 for ISO 7027 compliance, the W/LED where the white-light method is accepted as an alternative to EPA 180.1, and the Power version for corrosion product trend monitoring in the water-steam cycle on a steel panel. The swan.ch page lists the Turbiwell Power with heated optics to prevent condensation effects.

The LED emission is monitored by an external photodiode and aging losses are compensated automatically. Keep the sample no more than 20 C above ambient to avoid condensation on the optics. State the model, drain valve type, degasser, flow controller and supply when requesting a quotation.

About brand

Swan Analytical Instruments (SWAN Analytische Instrumente AG) is a Swiss manufacturer of online water analysers, founded on 1 January 1991 in Hinwil by a group of engineers, chemists and physicists. It started with swimming pool and sanitary water, then grew quickly in water-steam cycle monitoring for power plants and ultrapure water for semiconductors. Swan is 100 % employee-owned.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list selected Swan AMI analyzers for power, desalination and water plants in Oman and the GCC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which models does the AMI Turbiwell manual cover?
The Turbiwell 7027 with an infrared LED, the Turbiwell W/LED with a white-light LED and the Turbiwell Power on a steel panel.
How does it measure turbidity?
It is a non-contact nephelometer. The detector reads light scattered at 90 degrees, so optical surfaces do not touch the sample.
What measuring range does it have?
0.000 to 200.0 FNU for the 7027 and Power versions and 0.000 to 100.0 NTU for the W/LED.
Does it need field calibration?
No. It is factory calibrated with formazine, with LED intensity monitored by a photodiode, though formazine calibration is possible.
Can it measure oil in water?
The manual describes a ppm calculation for liquids whose turbidity correlates with a suspended solid or emulsified oil.
