Adam Equipment SHS Crane Scales with Remote Control

Description

The Adam SHS series is a family of light-capacity hanging (crane) scales for weighing suspended objects up to 50, 150 or 300 kg. The scale has a polycarbonate indicator housing, a chrome-plated steel hook with safety catch, an oversized swivel shackle and bolt, a bright red LED display and a remote control so the operator can read and operate it from a safe distance.

A hanging scale for workshop and site lifting checks

Typical jobs are checking the weight of components before they are hoisted, verifying parcels and fabricated items, weighing drums and tools in stores and recording loads in a workshop. The hook and shackle rotate for easy loading and then lock in place during weighing. Hold freezes the reading after the load is removed so the operator has time to record it, zero tracking returns the display to zero, and programmable auto power-off saves battery.

Adam supplies a rechargeable battery with the scale and also lists an AC adapter and four AA batteries as power sources. The LED digits are 15 mm high and legible outdoors and in poor light.

Safety and selection notes

The datasheet states that Adam cannot be held liable for damage or injury resulting from use beyond the capacity and ultimate overload limit; the sheet lists a 100 kg overload limit for the SHS 50 and 450 kg for the SHS 300. The overload value printed for the SHS 150 is inconsistent in the datasheet and is not repeated here, so confirm it with the manufacturer. Do not use the scale as a lifting device or lifting-equipment rating; it is a weighing instrument, and the lifting accessories, slings and anchor points must have their own rated capacities.

Choose the smallest capacity that covers the heaviest expected load, as this gives the best readability: 10 g on the SHS 50, 20 g on the SHS 150 and 50 g on the SHS 300. For heavier loads this series is not suitable and a higher-capacity crane scale or load cell system should be requested.

Ordering checklist

Confirm the capacity, the power source, the units (kg, lb or N), whether a calibration certificate is needed, and the working temperature range of 0 to 40 C. The datasheet shows no legal-for-trade approval for this series. Other instruments are listed under portable test and measurement instruments.

Selecting and using a crane scale: hang the scale from a fixed point whose rating is well above the load, and attach the load to the hook so that it hangs freely and does not swing, because a swinging load disturbs the reading. Use the remote control to read the weight from a safe distance and the hold function to capture the value once the load is lowered. External calibration lets the scale be verified with a known mass, and zero tracking returns the display to zero when unloaded. Because the series stops at 300 kg, heavier loads need a different crane scale with a suitable rated capacity.

Adam Equipment is a weighing scale and balance manufacturer headquartered in the UK. The company was formed in 1972 in Bletchley, England, moved to Milton Keynes in 1975 and is part of the Indutrade AB group. Adam Equipment supplies industrial, laboratory, education, medical, veterinary, botanicals and retail weighing equipment.

Weighing ranges

Industrial products include AELP pallet beams, PT platform scales, PTSplus pallet truck scales, SHS crane scales, AGB and AGF bench and floor scales, Aqua washdown scales and AE series weighing indicators. Laboratory ranges include the Luna and Equinox balances, with calibration weights, anti-vibration tables and printers listed as accessories.

Requesting an Adam quotation

Send the capacity and readability needed, the platform or pan size, whether legal-for-trade approval is required, the indicator or accessories and the working environment. The manufacturer datasheets list models, accessories and approvals, which allows the configuration to be confirmed before an offer is issued.
