Brand:

Norgren RM/57200/M Stainless Steel Roundline Cylinder

Description

A stainless steel roundline cylinder for tough environments

The Norgren RM/57200/M is a double-acting roundline cylinder with a stainless steel barrel, a stainless piston rod and a magnetic piston, in bores from 8 to 63 mm. The RM prefix has metric or G port threads; the RT/57200/M version has Rc threads. Norgren states that it saves 20 percent of space compared with the basic length of a corresponding ISO or VDMA cylinder, and that low-friction, long-life seals and a high-strength double-crimped end cap design give a long service life.

The stainless barrel and rod make it suitable for washdown and corrosive areas, such as food, beverage and chemical plant, and for compact installations in small automation, where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder would be too long.

Sizes, thrust and variants

Theoretical thrust at 6 bar is shown below, from the datasheet; allow a margin for friction and load.

Bore (mm) Port (RM / RT) Rod (mm) Rod thread Thrust out (N) Thrust in (N)
8 M3 3 M3 30 25.9
10 M5 4 M4 46.8 39.6
12 M5 4 M4 67.8 60
16 M5 6 M6 120 103
20 M6 / Rc1/8 8 M8 188 158
25 M6 / Rc1/8 10 M10 x 1.25 294 247
32 G1/8 / Rc1/8 12 M10 x 1.25 482 414
40 G1/8 / Rc1/8 14 M12 x 1.25 754 661
50 G1/4 / Rc1/4 16 M12 x 1.25 1178 1057
63 G1/4 / Rc1/4 20 M16 x 1.5 1870 1680

The variants are R./57200/M standard (integral eye mounting for bores 50 and 63), /MC central rear port, /MF flat rear cover and /JM double-ended piston rod (bores 16 to 63). In the option selector, the RT or RM prefix comes from the port thread, then the cylinder bore code and the stroke up to 500 mm.

Air consumption at 6 bar runs from 0.004 l per cm of outstroke on the 8 mm bore up to 0.218 l per cm on the 63 mm bore, which helps size the valve and the tubing for small cylinders. The barrel is austenitic stainless steel on all bores, while the piston rod is austenitic on bores 8 to 16 mm and martensitic on 20 to 63 mm, a point to check where chemical resistance of the rod itself matters. Dry, filtered air avoids ice below +2 degC.

What to confirm before ordering

State bore, stroke, thread type (RM metric or G, or RT Rc), variant, rod end and mounting, and check that the 10 bar and +80 degC limits suit the duty; these are lower than the 16 bar of ISO profile cylinders. For a larger ISO profile cylinder see the Norgren PRA/802000/M, and more units are under pneumatic cylinders.

About brand

Compressed air is Norgren territory. The brand dates from 1925 and is found on machine pneumatics and on the instrument air side of process plants: filters and regulators ahead of the valve, solenoid valves that pilot the actuator, and the cylinders that do the work.

Seven Star LLC lists Norgren solenoid valves, air preparation units and pneumatic actuation items and supplies them to maintenance teams in Oman by the exact part number on the old component.

Norgren product families on this page

Air preparation is represented by the Excelon line, here the B74G-6AK-AD1-RMN filter regulator with 3/4 inch ports. Among directional valves the page lists the V51B517A-A2000, a 5/2 way pneumatic solenoid valve, and the Herion 2636 (26360 series) solenoid valve; Herion is an older name that still appears on many nameplates in process plants. Also listed are the 85750 solenoid actuated shut-off valve and ISO 15552 and roundline pneumatic cylinders.

Where Norgren components are used

Filter regulators condition instrument air for control valve positioners and on-off valve actuators. Solenoid valves of the Herion type pilot pneumatic actuators on shutdown and process valves in oil and gas, chemical and power plants. The V-series valves and cylinders belong to packaging machines, material handling and general factory automation, in the GCC as anywhere else.

Ordering Norgren parts: what we need

Norgren part numbers are long and every character counts. In a code such as B74G-6AK-AD1-RMN the blocks set the port size and thread, the drain type, the filter element, the bowl and the regulator spring. Send the complete number, or a photo of the label. For solenoid valves add the coil voltage and frequency, the port thread, the hazardous area protection required and the ambient temperature. For cylinders give the bore, stroke and mounting style.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between RM/57200 and RT/57200?
The port thread. RM versions have metric or G threads, RT versions have Rc threads, and the cylinder is otherwise the same.
What materials is the cylinder made of?

What is the maximum pressure?
10 bar, from a minimum of 1 bar, with an operating temperature of -5 to +80 degC.
Does it have a magnetic piston?
Yes, a standard magnetic piston is built in for position switches.
How long can the stroke be?
Standard strokes go up to 320 mm depending on bore, and non-standard strokes up to 500 mm are available on request.
