Description

Overview

The pFlow D348D Multi-Channel Insertion Flowmeter is an advanced solution for high-precision fluid measurement in large-scale industrial applications. Engineered for pipes with diameters up to 5000mm, this flowmeter delivers exceptional accuracy of ±0.5%. Its multi-channel capability, supporting two to six measurement channels, ensures a comprehensive and accurate reading of the flow profile, even in complex and demanding environments. The D348D is designed for hot-tap installation, allowing for seamless integration into existing pipelines without the need for system shutdowns. With robust IP68-rated transducers and versatile Modbus and WiFi integration, the pFlow D348D is the ideal choice for monitoring bulk water distribution, cooling systems, and other critical industrial processes where precision and reliability are paramount.

Measurement Principle

The pFlow D348D operates on the transit-time differential principle. This advanced ultrasonic measurement technique involves sending and receiving ultrasonic signals across the pipe. The system uses multiple pairs of transducers, with each pair consisting of a transmitter and a receiver. These transducers are strategically placed on the pipe to create multiple acoustic paths. An ultrasonic signal is first transmitted in the direction of the fluid flow. The time it takes for this signal to travel from the transmitter to the receiver is recorded. Subsequently, another signal is transmitted against the direction of the fluid flow, and its transit time is also measured. The difference between the upstream and downstream transit times is directly proportional to the velocity of the fluid. By precisely measuring this time difference, the flowmeter accurately calculates the flow velocity. The flow rate is then determined by multiplying the flow velocity by the cross-sectional area of the pipe. The use of multiple channels enhances the accuracy of the measurement by averaging the velocity profile across the pipe, making it ideal for large diameter pipes where flow profiles can be complex.

Engineering Design

The pFlow D348D is meticulously engineered for robust performance in demanding industrial environments. The flowmeter’s design prioritizes durability, ease of installation, and operational reliability. The transducers are constructed with high-quality materials to achieve an IP68 protection rating, making them suitable for submersion and ensuring long-term stability in harsh conditions. The insertion design, coupled with the hot-tap installation capability, allows for the flowmeter to be installed on active pipelines without interrupting the process flow. This significantly reduces downtime and installation costs. The transmitter enclosure is designed for user-friendly operation, with a clear display and intuitive interface for configuration and data access. The multi-channel configuration is a core aspect of the D348D’s design, allowing for a more detailed and accurate representation of the flow profile across large diameter pipes.

About brand

Clamp-on ultrasonic flow measurement is what pFlow does. The sensors strap to the outside of the pipe and measure liquid flow by transit time, so the line is not cut and nothing touches the fluid. The brand comes from Gentos, an instrument maker focused on ultrasonic flowmeters, flow sensors and heat and cooling energy meters.

Seven Star LLC is the pFlow agency for Oman and the GCC, listing pFlow ultrasonic flowmeters in fixed, portable and LoRaWAN versions, BTU meters and LoRaWAN flow control valves.

pFlow flowmeter families

Most of the listed models are compact clamp-on sensors grouped by pipe size and duty. The GF family (GFCL, GFR, GF-S-CL, GF-SH-CL for hot water and GF-GH-CL for immersion cooling) and the MF micro flowmeters (MFR, MFCL) serve cooling and process loops on small and medium pipes. The MP series are plug-and-play flow sensors, including the MP801 and a LoRaWAN version. The D116-BTU is a wall-mounted ultrasonic BTU meter, the P116 a portable flowmeter for surveys, and the F8 a fixed meter used in aquaculture. Gentos also builds the F3 series clip-on flowmeters, including a panel-mount version. The VC200-R is a LoRaWAN ball valve that works as a flow switch.

Where pFlow meters are used

The manufacturer documents use in liquid cooling for data centers and semiconductor plants, chilled and hot water metering in central air conditioning, water supply networks and irrigation, aquaculture, and utility lines in petrochemical and power plants.
