pFlow MP LoRaWAN Series Clamp-On Flow Sensor
Overview
The pFlow MP LoRaWAN Series is a battery-powered, clamp-on ultrasonic flow sensor built by Gentos around native LoRa wireless communication, extending the pFlow MP platform beyond short-range WiFi into long-distance, low-power LoRaWAN telemetry. Where the standard pFlow MP Series relies on WiFi or USB for local connectivity, the MP LoRaWAN Series integrates a dedicated LoRa radio and antenna directly into the transmitter housing, giving facility teams strong-penetration, kilometer-scale wireless range for flow monitoring points that sit far from a WiFi access point or where running network cabling is impractical.
As the official authorized partner and exclusive regional representative for pFlow Gentos, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the MP LoRaWAN Series to agricultural developers, municipal water utilities, and building automation contractors across the Sultanate of Oman and the wider GCC. Every unit shipped through our regional warehouse network carries full manufacturer backing, and our instrumentation division supports LoRaWAN network planning, gateway selection, and commissioning for irrigation networks, garden and municipal water distribution, and remote building water management projects throughout Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah.
Measurement Principle
The pFlow MP LoRaWAN Series uses the ultrasonic transit-time method, combining Gentos’ proprietary ultrasonic flow algorithm with a clamp-on transducer pair to measure liquid velocity without cutting into the pipe. Ultrasonic pulses are transmitted alternately upstream and downstream through the flowing liquid, and the measurable difference in transit time between the two directions is converted into volumetric flow rate. Because the sensor clamps externally onto the pipe wall, there is no wetted part inside the flow path, no pressure drop, and no risk of leaks or contamination at the measurement point — a critical advantage for potable water, irrigation, and food-grade piping systems.
Once flow is measured, the pFlow MP LoRaWAN transmitter’s onboard LoRa radio transmits the reading over the LoRaWAN communication protocol using low power consumption, long transmission distance, and strong signal penetration through walls, foliage, and underground enclosures. This lets a single LoRaWAN gateway aggregate readings from many MP LoRaWAN sensors spread across a large irrigation network, garden estate, or multi-building campus, eliminating the need for WiFi coverage or wired communication runs at every measurement point. The practical consequence is a flow-monitoring architecture that scales cheaply across wide geographic areas while keeping installation and running costs low.
Engineering Design of the pFlow MP LoRaWAN Series
The pFlow MP LoRaWAN Series transmitter is built as an all-in-one clamp-on unit combining the ultrasonic transducer, LoRa radio module, external whip antenna, battery pack, and a compact 0.96-inch LCD display with two touch keys in a single rugged housing. Installation uses Gentos’ signature nylon self-locking cable-tie clamp mechanism: the sensor body is positioned on the pipe section under test and locked in place automatically, avoiding the drilling, hot-tapping, or pipe-cutting that in-line flow sensors require. This clamp-on design breaks through the cumbersome installation constraints of traditional flow sensors and lets a technician commission a new pFlow MP LoRaWAN monitoring point in minutes rather than hours.
Power is supplied by two built-in 3.7V rechargeable batteries, fully charged in six to nine hours over a Type-C connector that also carries serial communication for configuration and diagnostics. The MP LoRaWAN Series supports selectable LoRa frequency bands — including EU868, US915, CN779, EU433, AU915, CN470, and AS923(HK) — allowing a single hardware platform to be deployed compliantly across different regional spectrum regulations. The housing is rated IP54 and specified for a transmitter installation ambient temperature of 5–55°C, with the sensor itself rated to measure media between 0°C and 60°C.
Key Features
The pFlow MP LoRaWAN Series brings long-range wireless telemetry to Gentos’ proven clamp-on ultrasonic measurement platform, with the following key capabilities:
- Native LoRaWAN wireless communication with low power consumption, long transmission distance, and strong signal penetration for remote or hard-to-wire monitoring points.
- Clamp-on ultrasonic transit-time measurement with no wetted parts, no pressure drop, and no pipe cutting required for installation.
- Available across four pipe-material variants — carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and PVC — covering models MP805 through MP808 to match the exact pipe material on site.
- Nylon self-locking cable-tie clamp mechanism for fast, tool-light installation directly onto the pipe section under test.
- Dual built-in 3.7V rechargeable batteries with 6–9 hour full charge time over a single Type-C connector.
- Selectable multi-region LoRa frequency bands (EU868, US915, CN779, EU433, AU915, CN470, AS923) for compliant pFlow MP LoRaWAN deployment worldwide.
- Integrated 0.96-inch LCD display with two touch keys for on-site reading and configuration without a separate handheld device.
- Measurable velocity range of 0.03–5.0 m/s across DN20, DN25, and DN32 pipe sizes, suitable for small-to-medium diameter distribution lines.
Industrial Applications
The pFlow MP LoRaWAN Series is widely applied in municipal garden irrigation and farm irrigation networks, where dozens of remote monitoring points must report flow data back to a central system without the cost of trenching network cable to every location. In residential and collective dormitory water management, and in monitoring and control of water production equipment, the long transmission range and strong wall/soil penetration of LoRaWAN let a small number of gateways cover an entire property or campus, making it practical to meter water use at scale without a dense WiFi infrastructure.
As the officially authorized partner for pFlow Gentos, Seven Star LLC distributes the MP LoRaWAN Series to agricultural developers, aquaculture operators, and municipal utilities across Oman and the GCC, including large-scale farm irrigation projects in the Sohar and Salalah economic zones where distances between metering points make WiFi or wired connectivity impractical. The pFlow MP LoRaWAN sensor is equally suited to automatic car wash water monitoring, building water distribution sub-metering, and any distributed water network across hospitality developments, industrial estates, or agricultural cooperatives that need reliable, long-range flow telemetry without extensive wiring.
