Kärcher HDS 1000 De Diesel Engine Hot Water Pressure Cleaner

Description

Mains-independent hot water pressure cleaning for remote sites

The Kärcher HDS 1000 De is a diesel-driven hot water high-pressure cleaner built into a sturdy tubular steel cage frame designed for crane or forklift loading. Because the pump is driven by a Yanmar L 100 V engine, it needs no electrical supply and can work wherever water and diesel are available.

Kärcher prints a flow of 450 to 900 litres per hour, a working pressure of 40 to 200 bar and a water temperature of min. 80 to max. 98 °C. This combination suits field maintenance, construction and mining camps, pipeline and plant yards, and any location where mains power is unreliable.

Engine, burner and equipment

The burner has an upright heating coil and detonation-free continuous ignition, with automatic burner cut-out in case of water shortage and overheating. Kärcher says the high-output burner is intended for removing stubborn encrustations. Kärcher also mentions two integrated tanks that allow long run times.

The diesel engine is stated to comply with the exhaust emissions requirements of EU STAGE V and has an electric start. The delivery includes an EASY!Force Advanced gun with Servo Control, a 15 m Premium quality high-pressure hose (DN 8, 315 bar), a power nozzle and the cage frame.

Using a diesel-driven unit safely

Engine exhaust and a fired burner require ventilated outdoor or open locations. Fuel storage, refuelling and fire precautions should follow the operating instructions and the site rules. The table compares the electric HDS models, which are the alternative where mains power exists.

Where a diesel hot water cleaner makes sense

Hot water cleaning is most useful where the dirt is oily, greasy or baked on. Heated water softens grease, oil residues and encrusted soiling so that they lift from the surface faster than with cold water alone, which shortens cleaning time and reduces the need for repeated passes. On construction plant, earthmoving machines, trucks, pump skids, compressors and workshop floors, this difference is often noticeable in daily maintenance.

The HDS 1000 De adds independence from mains power to that benefit. On a pipeline spread, a quarry, a desert camp or a remote utility station, a diesel-driven machine can be brought to the work rather than bringing the equipment to a wash bay. The cage frame allows the unit to be moved between work fronts by crane or forklift and set down close to where cleaning is needed.

Selection considerations

When comparing the HDS 1000 De with the electric HDS models in the table above, the first question is whether a reliable electrical supply exists at the cleaning location. Where it does, an electric machine may be simpler to run. Where it does not, or where the machine must move frequently between sites, the diesel drive is the practical choice. The second question is the type of soiling and the surfaces involved: the adjustable pressure and flow range allow gentler settings for sensitive surfaces and stronger settings for heavy encrustation. The third is how the unit will be transported and positioned, since its weight means it is handled with lifting equipment rather than by hand.

Operation and routine care in general terms

Kärcher states that the machine requires instruction, so operators should be trained on the operating instructions before first use. Before starting, check that the water supply is adequate and clean, that fuel is available for both the engine and the burner, and that the high-pressure hose and gun are in good condition and correctly connected. The automatic burner cut-out for water shortage and overheating is a protection feature, not a substitute for watching the water supply during work.

Personal protective equipment suited to hot water and high-pressure spray should be worn, and the spray should never be directed at people, animals, electrical equipment or the machine itself. After use, follow the shutdown sequence described in the manual so that the burner and pump are left in a safe state. Routine engine maintenance should follow the engine and machine documentation and the service intervals given there.

Working conditions in Oman and the GCC

High ambient temperatures, dust and sand are normal on many sites in the region. Position the unit in a shaded, well-ventilated outdoor area where exhaust and burner gases can disperse, and keep air paths around the engine and burner clear of sand build-up. Store diesel in approved containers away from the hot burner area and refuel only with the engine stopped, following site fire precautions.

Wastewater from cleaning oily equipment should be handled according to local environmental rules and the site permit, since runoff can carry oil and grease. Planning a suitable cleaning area with drainage control helps keep the operation compliant.
