Brand:

EagleBurgmann Cartex-DN Dual Cartridge Mechanical Seal

Description

Dual cartridge seals with an integrated pumping device for barrier-fluid sealing

The EagleBurgmann Cartex-DN is a pre-assembled dual (double) cartridge seal with a pressure-balanced, back-to-back arrangement and an integrated pumping device that circulates the barrier fluid. It is designed for centrifugal and eccentric screw pumps, packing conversions, retrofits and original equipment, with no dimensional change to the seal chamber on centrifugal pumps. The datasheet lists TA Luft (German Clean Air Act) compliance. Recommended applications on the datasheet include the petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical, power plant, pulp and paper, mining and food and beverage industries.

EagleBurgmann notes that dirt entering during assembly cannot damage the seal because it is delivered pre-assembled, and that the dynamically loaded O-ring does not damage the shaft. A variant for eccentric screw pumps (-Vario) and a gas-lubricated version (-GSDN) are available.

Barrier system and piping plans

EagleBurgmann lists its QFT1000 and QFT2000 buffer vessels as suitable for the Cartex-DN in a back-to-back arrangement, and its TS1016 and TSA2 thermosiphon systems as supporting double and back-to-back seal configurations. Further product links on the datasheet are the TS1000 thermosiphon, the MultiFlow Unit (MFU) and BestFlow. For the barrier circulation system the datasheet limits p3 to 25 bar and recommends a pressure difference between barrier and product of only 2 to 3 bar in normal operation, rising to 7 bar for barrier fluids with poor lubricating properties.

Shaft diameter d1 Dimension d2 Dimension l5 Dimension da
25 mm d2 43.0 mm l5 86.5 mm da 105 mm
50 mm d2 68.0 mm l5 86.5 mm da 148 mm
2.875 in d2 3.937 in l5 4.250 in da 7.480 in
4.000 in d2 4.937 in l5 4.250 in da 8.583 in

The table shows sample points from the dimension tables, which are printed for every shaft diameter in both millimetres and inches; the seal cover is available in machined or cast version.

Selection and installation notes

Choose a dual seal when the process liquid must not reach the atmosphere, or when the liquid is toxic, flammable or abrasive and a clean barrier fluid is wanted at the faces. Confirm the barrier fluid viscosity and its compatibility with the elastomers, set the barrier pressure above the product pressure by the recommended margin, and check that the face combination is rated for the product pressure, since silicon carbide against silicon carbide limits product pressure to 20 bar compared with 25 bar for the BQ1 pairing.

For a single-seal alternative on the same pump see the John Crane Type 5610 cartridge seal, or the EagleBurgmann Cartex-SN single cartridge seal in our pumps category.

How the EagleBurgmann Cartex-DN works

Two seals sit back to back with a barrier fluid between them. An integrated pumping device circulates the barrier fluid. The barrier fluid cools and lubricates the seal faces and keeps the process fluid inside the pump.

About brand

EagleBurgmann is a maker of mechanical seals and sealing systems and a joint venture of the Freudenberg Group and the Japanese EKK Group.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list EagleBurgmann seals for pump and rotating equipment users in Oman and the GCC.

EagleBurgmann product series

Component seals include the H7N balanced pusher seal, the H74-D balanced dual pusher seal and the MFL85N metal bellows seal. Cartridge seals include the Cartex-SN single and Cartex-DN dual cartridge seals and the SHV high-pressure cartridge seal to API 682.

The HRGS-D is a gas-lubricated double cartridge seal and the HGH201 a semi-split single seal for large shafts.

Single seals suit clean, non-hazardous liquids, while dual seals with a barrier or buffer fluid are used for hazardous, toxic or crystallising media. API 682 cartridge seals are standard in refineries and petrochemical plants, and metal bellows seals suit high temperatures where elastomers are limited.
