Description
A semi-split single seal for large shafts that avoids dismantling the pump
The EagleBurgmann HGH201 is a semi-split, balanced single mechanical seal with multiple rotating springs, for plain shafts of 50 to 310 mm (larger diameters on request). Only the sliding faces and O-rings are split, so the seal can be fitted around the shaft without dismantling the pump or removing the coupling, which EagleBurgmann lists as the economic advantage together with reduced down-times and installation times. The springs are protected from the product, the design is rugged and the split seat can be used on both sides.
The datasheet lists sea water desalination, pulp with up to 5 percent fibre content, water and waste water technology, power plants, shipbuilding, pulp and paper, cooling water pumps, stern tubes, defibrators, chest agitators, storage pumps, water turbines and gears as recommended applications.

The dimension table lists d1 from 50 to 310 mm with the matching housing dimensions in millimetres. For first fit EagleBurgmann supplies the seal unsplit (HGH210), and for disassembly of an unsplit seal the faces, seat and O-rings should be broken or cut.
Selection and installation notes
A split seal is chosen for service on large pumps, stern tubes, agitators and other machines where stripping the equipment to fit a conventional seal would be expensive. Confirm the shaft is plain and the seal chamber has radial room for the d3 housing, verify that the 25 bar and 150 C limits cover the duty, and choose the seat material for the medium, for instance silicon carbide where fibres or sand are present. Because the faces are split, fit and alignment instructions from the manufacturer should be followed closely at installation. EagleBurgmann notes that the exact application conditions must be notified before a guarantee can be given.

EagleBurgmann is a maker of industrial seals, formed in 2004 as an alliance between Burgmann Industries, part of the German Freudenberg Group, and Japan's Eagle Industry. Burgmann was founded in Dresden in 1884 by Feodor Burgmann, who invented a machine-braided self-lubricating stuffing box packing. EagleBurgmann product series
