Caleffi 575010 DN100 Flanged BA Backflow Preventer Bronze
Description
The 575010 is the DN 100 flanged member of the Caleffi 575 series of controllable reduced pressure zone backflow preventers, BA type. Installed between the mains and an internal water system, it keeps potable water from being contaminated if pressure reverses, by splitting the water into three pressure zones with two check valves and a relief drain between them.
Protecting the potable supply at the main entry
Backflow happens when mains pressure falls below the downstream pressure, for example after a main break or under heavy demand (back siphoning), or when downstream pressure rises, as with water pumped from a well (counter pressure). The datasheet states that a backflow-pollution risk assessment is required by the designer and the mains supplier, and that BA type devices protect against pollution of fluid categories up to 4 under EN 1717; category 5 water needs a hydraulic separation tank instead. The 575010 is sized for building mains and plant-room inlets, not single fixtures.
Key features from the datasheet
- Controllable reduced pressure zone device to EN 12729, family B type A, per the datasheet standard references
- Upstream check valve, downstream check valve and a discharge device with diaphragm and counter-spring; each of the three zones has a pressure test port
- In normal flow the intermediate chamber stays at least 140 mbar below inlet pressure; the drain opens when the difference falls to just over 140 mbar
- If the downstream check valve is faulty, the device always disconnects the mains from the user system
- Bronze body and cover, stainless-steel check valve stems, springs and drain seat, EPDM diaphragm and seals
- Elastomers approved by certifying bodies for potable water; datasheet lists conformity certification from NF, KIWA UK, KIWA, DVGW, SVGW, RI.SE, BELGAQUA, ACS and VA

Installation and maintenance notes
- Qualified personnel must install it to current regulations; fit horizontally, downstream of a shut-off valve and an inspectable strainer with drain, with another shut-off valve downstream.
- Install in an accessible position sized to avoid immersion from accidental flooding, with the tundish connected to sewage piping; the datasheet drawings show minimum clearances of 0.5 m.
- Flush the pipe at high flow before installing the preventer and strainer.
- To protect the mains, fit after the water meter; to protect the internal network, fit at the boundary of any contamination risk such as central heating or garden watering.
- A permanent leak at the drain is an early warning of debris in the upstream check valve; open taps to flush, or remove and clean the unit and strainer.
- The device is a health and safety device and needs periodic inspection; the datasheet provides a quick checking method taking under 15 minutes.
Applications in Gulf water systems
Large buildings, hotels, hospitals, labs, laundries, cooling-tower make-up lines and plant rooms in Oman and the GCC often connect potable mains to systems that must not be contaminated, such as boiler and chiller make-up and fire-fighting tanks. The datasheet protection matrix marks such cases, for example heating systems with additives, industrial tanks and fire-fighting systems using pressurised water, as needing backflow protection. Local water authority rules differ, so confirm the required protection category and any approval before ordering.
Selection and installation notes
A backflow preventer is selected from the fluid category, the size of the line and the flow range. Install it in the position and orientation the maker states, in a ventilated and drained location so a relief discharge cannot flood the room, with isolating valves and a strainer on the inlet. Commissioning tests and periodic tests are done by a competent person following the local water authority rules.

Documents and supply information
The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.

About brand
Caleffi is an Italian manufacturer of valves and components for heating, plumbing and hydronic systems, founded in 1961 by Francesco Caleffi in Gozzano, south of Lake Orta. It began by machining parts for other companies and moved to its own products, such as air vents and safety valves, within two years. Production moved in 1975 to Fontaneto d'Agogna, still its headquarters, and the group is led by his son Marco Caleffi.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Caleffi components against exact codes and the official Caleffi datasheets, for MEP contractors and facility teams in Oman and the GCC.

FAQ
Questions about the Caleffi 575010 DN100 Flanged BA Backflow Preventer
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01What does the 575010 protect against?
Backflow of polluted water into the potable mains, from back siphoning or counter pressure, for fluid categories up to 4 under EN 1717.
02How does a reduced pressure zone device work?
Two check valves create three zones; the intermediate zone stays at least 140 mbar below inlet pressure, and a drain opens if the difference falls, discharging until the body is empty.
03What are the size and temperature limits?
DN 100 with PN 16 flanges, nominal pressure PN 10, potable water up to 65 degrees C.
04How should it be installed?
Horizontally, after a shut-off valve and an inspectable strainer, with a shut-off valve downstream and a tundish piped to sewage; the datasheet requires qualified installers.
05Who supplies the Caleffi 575010 in Oman?
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and quotes against the exact code. Confirm local water-authority requirements and approvals before ordering.
