ABB ACS580-01-145A-4 AC Drive 75 kW 145 A
Description
What the ACS580-01-145A-4 is built for
Rated 75 kW at 400 V with 145 A of nominal current, the ACS580-01-145A-4 comes from ABB’s ACS580-01 wall-mounted range. Its frame R6 housing is 252 mm wide by 369 mm deep. Frame R6 is the largest in this group at 75 kW. With 435 m3/h of cooling air it suits major pumps, process fans and compressor drives.
Setup is guided by the assistant control panel that ships with the drive, with a settings menu and start-up assistants. The family has a built-in choke, EMC filter, Modbus RTU and Safe Torque Off. Compare neighbouring ratings in the AC drives category or start from the ABB ACS580 overview.

Choosing and installing the ACS580-01-145A-4
Two numbers matter when sizing: 138 A for light-duty loads that rarely exceed nominal torque, and 105 A for loads with frequent overloads. The corresponding motor sizes are 75 kW and 55 kW at 400 V. Short peaks up to 178 A are permitted for 2 seconds at start. Use ABB DriveSize if the duty cycle is not a simple constant load.
Installation data from the catalogue: 1956 W typical losses, 435 m3/h (256 ft3/min) cooling air, 67 dBA maximum noise at full fan speed, 300 m recommended motor cable, and 160 A gG or 200 A UL Class T input fuses. The adjacent ratings are ACS580-01-106A-4 (55 kW, 106 A) and ACS580-01-169A-4 (90 kW, 169 A).
Decoding ACS580-01-145A-4 and adding options
The type designation has four parts. ACS580 is the series. 01 marks the wall-mounted construction. 145A identifies the rating, and 4 stands for the 380 to 480 V range. After that come plus codes such as +B056 (IP55), +B063 (IP66), +F278 (main switch), +E223 (C1 filter), +C135 (flange mounting) and +P944 (no conduit box, R5 to R9). Leave them out for the plain IP21 drive.
Frame R6 in IP55 form is 727 x 252 x 380 mm, 43 kg. The catalogue dimension table lists IP66 only for frames R1 to R3. For communications, the catalogue shows slot-mounted adapters: PROFIBUS DP via FPBA-01, Modbus RTU via FSCA-01, EtherNet/IP via FEIP-21 and Modbus/TCP via FMBT-21, ordered by the +K codes above.
Installation and commissioning on site
The ACS580-01-145A-4 is a wall-mounted unit, so the first job is to choose a wall or panel back that can carry its 42.4 kg weight and leaves clear space above and below for the cooling air to move. Hot air leaving the top of the drive should not be drawn straight back into its inlet or into a neighbouring drive. Where several R6 drives share a room, the combined heat dissipation of each unit has to be removed by the room ventilation or air conditioning, not just by the drive fans.
- Fit the recommended input fuses ahead of the drive and size the supply cable to suit them.
- Use symmetrical screened motor cable and terminate the screen at the glandbox with 360-degree bonding, so the internal EMC filter is effective.
- Keep motor cable length within the recommended maximum, and check the motor insulation if an older motor is being converted to variable speed.
- Run the start-up assistant on the control panel, entering motor nameplate data and the application macro before the first run.
- Test Safe Torque Off wiring as part of commissioning if the drive is part of a safety function.
Choosing the right duty for the process
Pumps and fans with variable torque normally qualify for the light-duty rating, while crushers, mixers, loaded conveyors and positive displacement pumps often need the heavy-duty current because of frequent starts under load. If the process engineer cannot give a clear duty cycle, size on heavy duty and confirm with DriveSize rather than risk nuisance overload trips after start-up.
Maintenance and troubleshooting
Drives of this size depend on their cooling fans and heat sink. Plan regular inspections of fan operation, clean the heat sink fins, and check that the IP21 enclosure openings are not blocked by stored material or cable trays. The control panel keeps a fault and event log; reading it before resetting a trip saves time, because repeated overcurrent, overvoltage or earth fault events each point to a different cause in the motor, cable, load or supply.
- Retighten power connections after the first period of operation and at planned shutdowns.
- Record parameter settings with the panel backup function, so a replacement drive can be set up quickly.
- Check insulation resistance of the motor and cable if earth fault trips appear after rain or washdown.
Application notes for Oman and GCC conditions
The catalogue ratings are given for 40 degrees C and altitudes up to 1000 m. Many electrical rooms in Oman exceed that temperature in summer if cooling fails, so check the ABB derating rules and design the room air conditioning around the drive losses. The standard IP21 enclosure is intended for clean electrical rooms; for dusty pump stations or water treatment sites the IP55 version listed above gives better protection against fine sand and moisture. On coastal sites and desalination plants, salt-laden air attacks exposed copper and circuit boards, so keep the drive in a conditioned, positively pressurised room where possible and avoid installing it near outside doors or louvres.

About brand
ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.
ABB product families on this page
Flow measurement includes ABB electromagnetic, Coriolis, vortex and swirl meters, sold under names such as ProcessMaster, AquaMaster, CoriolisMaster and SwirlMaster. Liquid analysis covers pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen sensors with their transmitters. SensyTemp TSP sensors handle temperature. On the electrical side the listing has ACS355 machinery drives, the ACS550 general purpose drive, the ACQ580 for water and wastewater and the ACS880-01 industrial drive, with fieldbus adapters such as the FPBA-01 for PROFIBUS DP. Where ABB instruments and drives are used
Water and wastewater plants use the electromagnetic flowmeters, analyzers and ACQ580 drives together. Oil and gas, power and chemical plants specify the Coriolis and vortex meters, pressure and level transmitters and the 615 series relays for motor and transformer feeders. The drives run pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors in almost every industry.
Ordering ABB parts: what we need
For drives send the full type code from the rating label, for example ACS355-03E-05A6-4, plus the serial number if it is a replacement. For instruments send the complete order code, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol and the hazardous area approval. For breakers give frame size, rated current, breaking capacity, number of poles, trip unit and fixed or withdrawable version.
