ABB 100E general purpose 12 mm pH/redox (ORP) sensor
Description
Overview
The ABB 100E is a general-purpose pH/ORP sensor built in a compact 12 mm form factor, engineered for reliable performance in installations where space is limited and a smaller-diameter sensor body simplifies fitting into tight ports, small-bore pipework, or crowded sample panels. Within ABB’s 100-series sensor family, the 100E’s defining distinction from the standard-body 100 GP and 100 ULTRA is this reduced physical size, not a different chemical duty rating.
Seven Star LLC supplies the ABB 100E sensor to industrial operators across Oman and the wider GCC as an experienced supply partner for genuine ABB instrumentation. Every unit is supplied on request with manufacturer documentation, and supported locally with sensor-selection guidance for space-constrained installations.
Operating Principle
Like other members of the 100-series family, the 100E uses a glass-membrane electrode for pH measurement or a metal electrode for ORP, paired with a reliable reference system to generate an analog signal proportional to the measured parameter. The sensor’s analog output makes it fully compatible with standard pH/ORP transmitters and existing instrumentation, so it drops into current control architecture without requiring new signal infrastructure.
Despite its compact 12 mm body, the 100E’s high-performance reference system and reliable glass membrane are engineered to deliver consistent, drift-free readings even under fluctuating temperature and pressure – the reduced size is achieved without compromising the electrochemical performance expected from a general-purpose ABB sensor.
Engineering Design of the ABB 100E
The 100E’s robust construction resists chemical degradation and physical damage despite its smaller footprint, making it well suited to wastewater treatment, chemical processing, and manufacturing installations where dependable pH or ORP readings are critical but physical space around the measurement point is constrained. Its 12 mm diameter allows fitting into ports and pipeline connections that a standard-body sensor could not physically accommodate.
Low maintenance requirements and an extended service life are preserved despite the compact design, and installation remains straightforward with minimal calibration effort required to bring the sensor into service. This combination of small size and standard-tier reliability makes the 100E a practical fit for retrofits into existing tight-clearance installations.
Key Features
- Compact 12 mm form factor for space-constrained installations
- General-purpose pH and ORP measurement
- Robust construction resisting chemical degradation and physical damage
- Analog output compatible with standard pH/ORP transmitters
- High-performance reference system and reliable glass membrane
- Consistent, drift-free readings under fluctuating conditions
- Low maintenance requirement and extended service life
- Suited to pipelines, tanks, and inline sample loops
Industrial Applications
The 100E is well suited to wastewater treatment, chemical processing, and manufacturing applications where dependable pH or ORP readings are needed at measurement points with tight installation clearances – small-bore pipelines, compact sample panels, or retrofit ports sized for a smaller sensor body. It maintains accuracy and stability in pipelines, tanks, or inline sample loops despite its reduced size.
Across Oman’s wastewater treatment, chemical processing, and manufacturing sectors, and throughout the wider GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the 100E as a trusted supplier of ABB products to facilities in Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah that need dependable, factory-genuine compact pH/ORP sensors with full local support.

Fitting a 12 mm Sensor Correctly
The small body diameter is the reason to choose the 100E, so the fitting deserves as much attention as the sensor. Confirm that the holder, flow cell or compression gland is made for a 12 mm shaft, and check the immersion length so that the glass bulb and junction sit fully in the flowing liquid. Mount the sensor at an angle above horizontal, typically at least 15°, so that the internal electrolyte stays in contact with the glass bulb and no air bubble settles against it.
- Avoid the top of a pipe run where gas collects, and positions where the line can drain empty.
- In a sample loop, keep the flow steady and moderate; a stagnant cell gives slow, unrepresentative readings.
- Leave enough clearance to withdraw the sensor for cleaning and calibration without dismantling the pipework.
Wiring an Analog pH/ORP Sensor
Because the 100E sends a high-impedance millivolt signal, the cable run to the transmitter is the most sensitive part of the loop. Keep the sensor cable as short as practical, route it away from motor and VFD cables, and keep connectors clean and dry. Moisture in a connector is a frequent cause of drifting or frozen readings. Check that the transmitter input is configured for pH or ORP to match the sensor, and connect a temperature element where the transmitter compensates for temperature.
Calibration and Care
Calibrate pH with two fresh buffers that bracket the normal process value, rinsing the sensor with clean water between buffers. For ORP, check the reading against a redox standard solution rather than adjusting it to match the process. Never let the glass bulb dry out: store the sensor wet with its protective cap and storage solution, and do not wipe the bulb with abrasive material.
- Slow response: the bulb is coated; clean with a method suited to the deposit, then re-calibrate.
- Offset that returns after calibration: suspect a fouled or poisoned reference junction.
- Noisy reading: look for ground loops, a damp connector or a cable routed near power wiring.
Where the 100E Fits in Gulf Plants
In Oman and the GCC the 100E is a practical choice for dosing skids, compact sample panels in desalination and water treatment, cooling water monitoring and retrofits where the original holder was sized for a small sensor. Where a site needs digital diagnostics or long cable runs, the 500 PRO-D is the alternative to consider. Seven Star LLC can supply the sensor with matching spares, and will confirm the lead time and documentation when you send the existing model code or fitting details.

About brand
ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.
ABB product families on this page
Flow measurement includes ABB electromagnetic, Coriolis, vortex and swirl meters, sold under names such as ProcessMaster, AquaMaster, CoriolisMaster and SwirlMaster. Liquid analysis covers pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen sensors with their transmitters. SensyTemp TSP sensors handle temperature. On the electrical side the listing has ACS355 machinery drives, the ACS550 general purpose drive, the ACQ580 for water and wastewater and the ACS880-01 industrial drive, with fieldbus adapters such as the FPBA-01 for PROFIBUS DP. Protection and switching products include SACE Tmax XT molded case breakers, SACE Emax 2 air circuit breakers, PSR soft starters and the REM615 and RET615 relays.
Where ABB instruments and drives are used
Water and wastewater plants use the electromagnetic flowmeters, analyzers and ACQ580 drives together. Oil and gas, power and chemical plants specify the Coriolis and vortex meters, pressure and level transmitters and the 615 series relays for motor and transformer feeders. The drives run pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors in almost every industry.
Ordering ABB parts: what we need
For drives send the full type code from the rating label, for example ACS355-03E-05A6-4, plus the serial number if it is a replacement. For instruments send the complete order code, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol and the hazardous area approval. For breakers give frame size, rated current, breaking capacity, number of poles, trip unit and fixed or withdrawable version.
