KELLER Series 23SY Pressure Transmitter 0.1 to 1000 bar

Description

KELLER Series 23SY is a fully welded piezoresistive pressure transmitter for machinery, plant and mobile applications, covering 0…0.1 to 0…1000 bar. The stainless steel body is 21 mm in diameter by about 70 mm long and weighs about 120 g; the same datasheet also covers the intrinsically safe 23SY-Ei and the increased-safety 23SY-En versions.

One platform from 100 mbar to 1000 bar

The 23SY uses an insulated and encapsulated piezoresistive sensor chip with no internal seals and a direct analog signal path at 1 kHz bandwidth. KELLER lists industrial applications, machinery and plant manufacturing, agriculture, mobile hydraulics and the railway industry as typical uses.

Accuracy depends on the range: at most 0.25 %FS above 0.3 bar, 0.5 %FS between 0.15 and 0.3 bar and 1.0 %FS between 0.1 and 0.15 bar. The total error band is 0.7 %FS for ranges of 2 bar and above over -10…80 degC, with the datasheet noting that it scales by a factor of 2 for ranges between 0.3 and 2 bar.

Key features as printed in the datasheet

  • Compensated over -10…80 degC; long-term stability 0.2 %FS per year above 2 bar.
  • Fully welded, no internal seals; AISI 316L wetted parts.
  • Optional 23SY-Ei (Zone 0/1/2 and 20/21/22) and 23SY-En (Zone 2).
  • Outputs 4…20 mA, 0…10 V, 0…5 V and 0.5…4.5 V; start-up below 5 ms.
  • Cable, M12, M16 round plug and Form A valve plug connections.

Selection and ordering guide

Three type suffixes matter: plain 23SY for non-hazardous areas, 23SY-Ei for intrinsically safe circuits and 23SY-En for Zone 2. Only the M12 x 1 round plug, the Form A valve plug and the cable variants are approved for 23SY-En, and the voltage outputs 0…5 V and 0.5…4.5 V are not available for it.

Pressure ranges of 0.15 bar and below carry a higher signal limit (up to 31.5 mA) and do not support 0.5…4.5 V. The delivery includes a calibration certificate and the mating plug for the valve connector.

Installation and operation notes

The KELLER operating instructions for pressure transmitters state that the device must be installed unpressurised and de-energised by trained staff, that the pressure connection should be hand-started and then torqued on the spanner flats, and that a non-intrinsically-safe device must not be used in hazardous areas. For the Ei and En versions the conditions of safe use in the instructions apply.

Calibration is done vertically with the connection down, so mounting another way can shift the zero by up to 1.5 mbar (4 mbar below 2 bar).

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Hydraulic power packs, pumps, compressors and rail or mobile equipment suit the 23SY, while the Ei version fits intrinsically safe loops with certified barriers in oil and gas or chemical areas. Check the area classification and the temperature class printed in the datasheet against your site documents.

Compatible accessories and related items

KELLER lists Series 25SY (front-flush) and 21Y as similar products, and 23SY-Ei-H2, 23SY-En-H2 and UHP variants exist on its site. The 21Y and 25Y are also listed on this site.

About brand

KELLER Pressure is a Swiss family-owned manufacturer of piezoresistive pressure transducers and transmitters, founded in 1974 by Hannes W. Keller, inventor of the integrated silicon measuring cell, and headquartered in Winterthur. The company states that it produces 1.3 million measuring cells a year and carries out the whole chain from parts to calibration and final inspection at its Swiss headquarters.

Pressure transmitters and level probes

The KELLER range covers standard and front-flush pressure transmitters, differential and low-pressure transmitters, submersible level probes, digital pressure gauges and data loggers. Many X-line devices combine RS485 Modbus RTU with an analog output, and intrinsically safe or increased-safety versions are offered for hazardous areas.

Typical industries

KELLER lists oil and gas, water and environment, HVAC, chemistry, food and pharma, and raw material extraction among its industries. Seven Star LLC quotes KELLER transmitters and level probes in Oman and the GCC with the official datasheet for each item.
