Greenheck TAUB Belt Drive Tube Axial Roof Upblast Exhaust Fan
Description
A roof exhauster that throws contaminated air up and away from the building
The Greenheck TAUB is a belt-drive tube axial upblast roof exhauster built to remove and disperse contaminated air. The upblast configuration discharges the exhaust away from the roof surface, which protects roofing and avoids re-entrainment into nearby intakes. The motor and drives sit out of the airstream in a belt tube, so the fan suits hot or dirty exhaust that would harm a motor mounted in the air.
Greenheck lists general exhaust, industrial space ventilation, fume hood exhaust and paint booth exhaust as typical duties. The catalogue covers two versions: TAUB with a die-formed, welded fabricated steel propeller, and TAUB-CA with a cast aluminum airfoil propeller for spark-resistant construction.
Features printed in the catalogue
- Continuously welded housing with integral venturi, windband and curb cap; rolled edges on the windband and dampers.
- Belts, bearings and drives protected by a heavy-gauge steel belt tube and bearing cover; extended lube lines let you grease the bearings from outside the housing.
- Pillow-block bearings with an L10 life above 40,000 hours (L50 above 200,000 hours) at maximum operating speed.
- Butterfly dampers: aluminum on sizes 18 to 30, steel on sizes 36 to 60; gasketed discharge edge for quiet closure.
- Adjustable motor base with heavy-duty screws for belt tensioning; weatherproof motor cover that meets OSHA guarding.
- AMCA licensed for sound and air performance and FEI; UL/cUL 705 and UL Power Ventilators for Smoke Control Systems listings available on TAUB.

High-temperature and smoke removal options
Two families of option are printed. HT Option I builds the fan for continuous operation from 200 to 500 F (93 to 260 C); it has no fusible-link damper lifters, because continuous heat would trip the links and hold the dampers open. The emergency smoke removal options add fusible links that melt at 165 F (74 C) so spring lifters open the dampers and the fan acts as a gravity vent if power is lost. The UL option meets IRI requirements of 500 F for a minimum of 4 hours, the SBCCI requirement of 1000 F (538 C) for at least 15 minutes and the snow load test of UL 793. Greenheck tested these with a 3.3 million BTU gas-fired burner capable of airstream temperatures above 1000 F.
Model code and ordering
The code reads TAUB, then CA if the propeller is cast aluminum, then the fan size, the motor horsepower code and the certification suffix: X for UL 705 or HTUL for the high-temperature UL listing. For example TAUB-CA-24-20-X is a size 24 cast aluminum unit with a 2 hp motor and UL 705 (derived from the printed key). Horsepower codes run from 4 (1/4 hp) to 200 (20 hp). Give size, propeller type, hp, supply voltage and frequency, damper and curb needs when you request a price.
Installation and accessories
- Roof curbs, outlet screens, magnetic damper latches and four tie-down points for wind loading.
- Bolted or hinged inspection door, inlet guard, shaft seal with aluminum rub rings, special coatings (Permatector, Hi-Pro Polyester, Hi-Pro-Z).
- Disconnects rated NEMA-3R, 4, 7 and 9 or 12; the factory does not mount the NEMA-7, 9 or 12 types.
- Related ventilation products are in our HVAC and combustion category.
What to confirm before ordering
Confirm the exhaust temperature first: continuous heat above 200 F needs the high-temperature build, while emergency smoke duty needs the fusible-link version, and the two are not the same option. Then state propeller type, size, motor power and whether the motor must be explosion proof.
Information to send with an RFQ for the Greenheck TAUB Belt Drive Tube Axial Roof Upblast Exhaust Fan
Fans are selected on the duty point, not on the model name. For the Greenheck TAUB Belt Drive Tube Axial Roof Upblast Exhaust Fan, give the required airflow, the static pressure the fan must overcome, the air temperature and density, and whether the fan supplies or exhausts air. Mention the motor supply voltage, phase and frequency; 415 V / 3 ph / 50 Hz is common on GCC sites.
- Installation position and the roof curb, wall opening or duct connection available.
- Accessories: dampers, guards, speed control or variable frequency drive, and vibration isolation.
- Sound limits for nearby offices or residential areas.
- Ambient conditions: high temperature, dust, sand or corrosive air near the coast.
With a duty point and these details, the fan size, wheel and motor can be confirmed from the manufacturer’s selection data before a quotation is issued.
Documents and supply information
