Sauter EGT346F103 Ni1000 Duct Temperature Sensor 100 mm
Description
The EGT346F103 is a passive duct temperature sensor from Sauter with a Ni1000 measuring element on a 100 mm stainless-steel stem. It measures supply, return and extract air in ventilation ducts, and with an immersion sleeve it can also read liquid temperature in hot-water and chilled-water pipes, over a range of -50 to 160 degrees C in an IP65 housing.
A two-wire sensor for air handling and pipe work
Passive sensors such as the EGT346 give a controller the raw resistance of a nickel element, so the controller does the scaling and no supply voltage is needed. The Ni1000 element follows DIN 43760 with 1000 ohm at 0 degrees C and a positive temperature coefficient: resistance rises in a linear manner as temperature rises. The EGT family covers three element and length variants, and the F103 type with the 100 mm stem is the standard length for duct work.
Key features from the datasheet
- Passive measurement of air, gas and fluid temperatures in HVAC building systems up to 160 degrees C
- Humidity- and corrosion-proof sensor in a V4A stainless-steel immersion pipe, Ø 6 mm
- IP65 housing in UL94-V0 polycarbonate; usable in damp and dusty environments
- Removable cable gland and plug-in terminal block allow wiring away from the sensor and quick replacement
- Hinged cover opens without tools; optional cover screw secures against tampering
- Optional LW 7 thermowell allows use in pipes and pressure vessels up to 40 bar

Selection and ordering guide
The EGT range has Ni1000 and Pt1000 elements. The two element types are interchangeable within the stated accuracy, so match the type to what the controller expects.
| Order code | Element | Stem length | Range | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EGT346F103 | Ni1000 | 100 mm | -50 to 160 °C | 115 g |
| EGT346F203 | Ni1000 | 150 mm | -50 to 160 °C | 126 g |
| EGT347F103 | Ni1000 | 200 mm | -50 to 160 °C | 133 g |
| EGT348F103 | Ni1000 | 450 mm | -50 to 160 °C | 176 g |
| EGT446F103 | Pt1000 | 100 mm | -50 to 160 °C | 114 g |
| EGT447F103 | Pt1000 | 200 mm | -50 to 160 °C | 133 g |
| EGT392F102 | Ni1000 | 100 mm | -50 to 260 °C | 105 g |
The EGT392 is the high-temperature variant, in die-cast aluminium with an M16 inlet and a stem rated to 16 bar.
Installation notes
- Never mount with the cable gland facing upwards, as condensate or dripping water could damage the sensor; if condensate can form in the tube, fit so that it drains.
- In ducts, fix to the duct wall with the mounting clip supplied or with flange 0300360003 for variable immersion length.
- In water pipes and pressure vessels use an LW 7 thermowell (see Sauter sheet 39.100) and fill the gap with heat-conducting paste 0300360004.
- Install against the flow and at least 50 cm from a valve or pump.
- With compression fitting 0300360000 the sensor can be fitted directly in pipes up to 16 bar without a thermowell.
- Use shielded signal cable, route it away from power cables, and compensate line resistance in the controller for long runs.
Applications in Gulf building services
Oman and the GCC rely on large air-handling units with long ducts, so duct sensors are needed for supply-air, mixed-air and return-air control, frost and overheat monitoring, and for chilled-water coil protection. The IP65 housing handles dusty plant rooms and roof-mounted units, and the Ni1000 signal is read by most building controllers. The datasheet forbids use in fire protection systems or medical facilities, so keep it to comfort and process-support control.
Selection and installation notes
A building automation device is selected from the signal type, the supply voltage, the mounting position and the system it connects to. Check the wiring diagram and the cable type, keep sensor cables away from power wiring, confirm the addressing or scaling in the controller, test each point at commissioning and record the final settings. Use the mounting accessories and the installation position given in the data sheet.
A duct sensor must reach the air stream, so mount it where the air is mixed and away from coils or heaters that would affect the reading.
