Brand:

Moxa MGate 5105-MB-EIP Modbus to EtherNet/IP Gateway

Description

Bringing Modbus devices onto an EtherNet/IP network and to the cloud

The Moxa MGate 5105-MB-EIP is a one-port industrial gateway that converts Modbus RTU, ASCII and TCP to EtherNet/IP. It can act as a Modbus master or slave to collect data from existing meters, drives or analysers, store the latest values and present them to an EtherNet/IP scanner such as a Rockwell PLC as adapter data. It can also run as an EtherNet/IP scanner. In addition, it publishes data through MQTT, with TLS and certificates, in JSON or raw format, with built-in device SDKs for Azure and Alibaba Cloud, so the same gateway serves local control and remote monitoring such as energy or asset management. A microSD slot backs up configuration and logs and buffers data if the cloud link drops.

Planning the integration

Map the Modbus registers you need into the gateway memory, then import the EtherNet/IP data through the Rockwell AOI or EDS file listed on the Moxa site, and confirm the update rates your PLC needs. Limits to check are 100 Modbus commands and 2048 bytes in each direction. Use the web console I/O Data Mapping and Data View pages to confirm values before commissioning. If the target is PROFINET or DNP3 instead, see the MGate 5101-PBM-MN and MGate 5109 models. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact code you need; confirm cloud-connectivity requirements and temperature range before ordering. The datasheet (version 1.4) is attached, and related products are in Industrial Communications. Day-to-day maintenance is handled in the web console: an administrator can change every setting while general users have read-only access, I/O Data Mapping shows the memory addresses used by each protocol, and per-protocol diagnostics help locate a failing node. A microSD card can copy one configuration to several gateways, which speeds up repeated installations such as a row of identical skids. Environmental tests listed include shock (IEC 60068-2-27), vibration (IEC 60068-2-6 and -64) and free fall (IEC 60068-2-32), and the EMI class is FCC Part 15B Class B. The two Ethernet ports allow daisy-chaining, and the gateway supports SSH and SNMPv3 alongside HTTPS with TLS 1.3 for secure management. The MQTT side is configured in the web console, so confirm the broker address, topics and certificates with your IT team.

How the Moxa MGate 5105-MB-EIP works

The gateway talks Modbus on one side and EtherNet/IP on the other. It polls the Modbus devices, keeps the latest values in memory and presents them to the EtherNet/IP scanner. A PLC then reads the Modbus data as normal adapter data. The same values can also go to the cloud through MQTT.

About brand

Since 1987 Moxa, based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has built networking hardware for places where an office switch would fail: substations, wellhead panels, roadside cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists Moxa industrial Ethernet switches and fiber converters and supplies Moxa networking devices to system integrators and plant teams in Oman as an independent supplier. Each request is checked against the full Moxa model name before we quote.

Moxa switches and converters listed here

The EDS-G508E is a managed switch with eight Gigabit ports from the EDS managed line. The EDS-316-MM-SC-T is a 16-port unmanaged switch with 14 copper ports, two multi-mode SC fiber ports and the wide-temperature option (-40 to 75 C). The TCF-142-S-SC-T belongs to the TCF-142 series, which converts RS-232/422/485 serial signals to single-mode fiber. Moxa also makes serial device servers, protocol gateways, wireless devices and industrial computers, used on SCADA and telemetry networks across the GCC.

Ordering Moxa devices: what we need

The suffixes carry the specification. Send the complete model name, including fiber mode and connector (MM-SC, SS-SC, ST), the -T wide-temperature suffix and any coating or approval suffix. Add the power supply voltage, the SFP modules needed and the quantity.
