EUCHNER CTP-I-AP-U-HA-ZZ-SA Safety Switch without Guard Locking

Description

RFID safety switch for guards that need monitoring but no locking

The EUCHNER CTP-I-AP-U-HA-ZZ-SA (order no. 136732) is a transponder-coded safety switch without guard locking from the CTP series. It monitors whether a movable guard such as a hinged or sliding door is closed, and reports this through two semiconductor safety outputs that go directly to a safety relay or safe PLC input. It uses the same compact CTP housing as the guard-locking versions but has no solenoid, so it needs only a 24 V electronics supply.

Coding is unicode: every actuator is individually coded, the switch recognises only taught-in actuators, and only the last actuator taught in is accepted, which gives high protection against tampering. The mounting orientation is any, and the actuating head can be turned in 90 degree steps for horizontal approach. Signals leave through one 8-pin M12 plug connector.

5 OI Diagnostic output / communication
6 OD Door position monitoring output
7 0 V Electronics 0 V DC

The actuator is not included. EUCHNER lists for the CTP/CTA family a straight actuator A-C-H-G-SST-126015, bent actuators A-C-H-W-SST-122667 (top) and 122668 (bottom), and hinged actuators for left, right, top and bottom hinged doors (122671, 122672, 122675, 122676). M12 connecting cables with straight or angled 8-pin sockets in PUR or PVC are offered with flying leads in several lengths, including 5 m, 10 m, 20 m and 30 m. Protect inductive loads on the outputs with a free-wheeling diode, and for UL use operate the switch from a Class 2 supply.

A switch without guard locking is suited to guards where the machine stops quickly or there is no run-down hazard. If the machine keeps moving after the stop command, a guard locking version of the CTP or CTA family is required instead.

Additional electrical and safety data

Parameter EUCHNER data
External fuse 0.25–8 A
Rated insulation voltage Ui 50 V
Rated impulse withstand voltage Uimp 0.5 kV
Safety class III
Safety output HIGH level UB − 1.5 V to UB
Off-state current max. 0.25 mA
Test pulse duration / interval max. 0.3 ms / min. 100 ms
Repeat accuracy 10%
Storage temperature −25 to +70 °C

The safety outputs are tested with short pulses, so the connected safety relay or safe PLC input must tolerate test pulses of up to 0.3 ms. Most current safety evaluation units handle this, but check the input data of the device you plan to use.

How the CTP safety switch without guard locking works

The switch reads the RFID transponder in the actuator when the guard closes and the actuator enters the head. Only when the switch recognises the code of the taught-in actuator are both safety outputs FO1A and FO1B switched on. When the guard opens, the actuator leaves the read range and both outputs switch off. The two outputs are evaluated in two channels by the safety device, which is how the system reaches category 4 and PL e for guard position monitoring.

Because each actuator is unique and only the last taught-in actuator is accepted, a spare actuator or a second switch cannot be used to defeat the guard. Teaching in a new actuator, for example after damage, follows the procedure in the EUCHNER operating instructions.

Typical CTP-I-AP applications

  • Hinged and sliding doors on machine guards where the hazard stops quickly.
  • Access doors on packaging machines, conveyors and assembly cells.
  • Food and beverage machinery, where the IP69/IP69K rating supports washdown.
  • Retrofits where a mechanical tongue switch is replaced with a coded RFID switch.

Selecting actuators, cables and accessories

Order the actuator separately, choosing a straight, bent or hinged version to suit the door. For the M12 connection, EUCHNER offers 8-pin connecting cables with flying leads in PUR or PVC. Order numbers listed by EUCHNER include 5 m (PUR 115112, PVC 100177) and 30 m (PUR 115257, PVC 115116), in addition to the 10 m and 20 m lengths. A lockout bar AE-L-C-H-123411 and a door bolt BTC-CTP-S 123659 are also listed as accessories for the CTP series.

Installation and commissioning tips

  • Mount the switch and actuator so the actuator cannot be used as a door stop.
  • Turn the head to the approach direction before final tightening.
  • Fuse the supply externally within the 0.25–8 A range stated by EUCHNER.
  • Check the OD and OI outputs and the LED display when the guard is opened and closed.
  • Verify the complete safety function with the safety relay or PLC before handover.

About brand

EUCHNER is a German manufacturer of safety switches, guard locking systems and safety controls for machine safety, founded in 1940 and headquartered in Leinfelden-Echterdingen near Stuttgart. The family-owned company is best known for its guard locking and transponder-coded safety switches.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list EUCHNER safety components for machine builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

EUCHNER product series

Guard locking switches include the transponder-coded CTP, CTA and CTS series, the CTM with BiState guard locking, the STP twin switch and the electromechanical TX1B and TZ series. The MGB2 Multifunctional Gate Box combines guard locking, handle and control elements on one door. Non-contact switches include the CES-IA set and the CES-AP RFID safety switch, and the CTP-I version provides monitoring without guard locking.

Control devices include the ZSM and ZSB three-position enabling switches, the RPS emergency stop rope pull switch, the ESM safety relays (including versions with time-delayed contacts and the ESM-TE301 expansion) and the MSC modular safety controller.

Where EUCHNER components are used

Safety guards and doors on machine tools, robot cells, presses, packaging machines and conveyor systems, emergency stop along conveyors and enabling during setup and teaching. A switch or actuator is one part of a safety function; the complete system must be designed and validated for its application.
