Measurement Principle

The Micronics UF3300 uses the transit-time ultrasonic method, with a pair of clamp-on transducers mounted externally on the pipe wall sending ultrasonic pulses diagonally across the flow stream in both directions. The pulse traveling with the flow arrives faster than the pulse traveling against it, and because that time difference is directly proportional to the fluid’s average velocity, the UF3300’s onboard electronics continuously calculate volumetric flow rate, totalized volume, and – on the HM/energy variant – thermal energy from a paired temperature sensor set.

Because the transducers sit outside the pipe wall and nothing is inserted into the bore, the UF3300 introduces zero pressure drop, no moving parts to wear or foul, and no risk of process contamination, making it ideal for permanent installation on lines where opening the pipe for an in-line meter would be costly, disruptive, or simply impossible on an already-commissioned system.
