Victaulic Style 77 Standard Flexible Coupling

Description

Standard rigid-flexible grooved coupling for carbon steel pipe

The Victaulic Style 77 is a standard flexible grooved coupling that joins roll-grooved or cut-grooved carbon steel pipe, fittings and valves with a two-bolt housing and a pressure-responsive gasket. Because the joint is flexible, each coupling accepts pipe end separation, angular deflection and expansion or contraction, which reduces stress on equipment connections and removes the need for welding or flanging on many pipe runs. Grooved joints of this type are widely specified for chilled water, hot water, cooling water, compressed air and fire protection pipework in plants, buildings and utilities, where installation speed and a clean, no-hot-work joint matter.

The housing is ductile iron with an orange enamel finish as standard, and the gasket grade is chosen to suit the service. The coupling covers sizes from 3/4 in. to 24 in. (DN20 to DN600) and handles pressures from full vacuum up to 1000 psi (69 bar), depending on the size, pipe material and wall thickness.

Maximum working pressure by size group, based on standard-weight steel pipe, roll or cut grooved to Victaulic specification:

Nominal size Maximum working pressure, psi / kPa
3/4 to 6 / DN20-DN150 1000 / 6895
8 to 12 / DN200-DN300 800 / 5516
14 to 22 / DN350-DN550 300 / 2068
24 / DN600 250 / 1724

Selection and installation notes

Confirm the pipe outside diameter and groove type, choose the gasket grade for the fluid and temperature, and check the working pressure for the pipe wall thickness in use. The leaflet gives allowable separation and deflection figures for standard roll-grooved pipe and notes that the figures should be reduced for design and installation purposes, by 50 % for 3/4 to 3-1/2 in. and 25 % for 4 in. and larger. Pipe larger than 14 in. in roll-groove systems is served by the Style W77 AGS coupling. For other grooved products see the Victaulic Style 107N coupling and the wider range under Pipes and Fittings.

About brand

Grooved pipe joining started with Victaulic in 1919, and the company, based in Easton, USA, still sets the reference for couplings that join pipe without welding or flanges. Seven Star LLC lists Victaulic couplings and butterfly valves, among them the Style 107N QuickVic rigid coupling, and supplies Victaulic couplings and fittings for mechanical, utility and process piping in Oman on inquiry.

Victaulic Style 107N QuickVic couplings

The Style 107N is a rigid coupling for roll-grooved or cut-grooved carbon steel and stainless steel pipe in sizes from 2 to 12 inches (DN 50 to DN 300). Victaulic rates it from full vacuum up to 750 psi (5171 kPa), but the working pressure of a given joint depends on pipe material, wall thickness and size. The housing has an angled bolt pad that makes the joint rigid, and a galvanized finish is optional.

Where Victaulic couplings are used and what to send

The manufacturer names HVAC, utility and process piping as the applications for this style. For an inquiry, send the style number, nominal size, pipe material and schedule, the fluid and temperature so the gasket grade can be checked, the housing finish and the quantity. GCC consultants often ask for the submittal sheet, which we provide from the manufacturer.
