Brand:

TSI DustTrak DRX 8533 Desktop Aerosol Monitor PM1 PM2.5 PM10

Description

Five mass fractions measured at the same moment

The TSI DustTrak DRX 8533 is a desktop aerosol monitor that reports PM1, PM2.5, respirable, PM10 and total mass concentration simultaneously. It uses 90-degree light scattering and reports all five channels from a single measurement, with no impactor changes needed between fractions. The range is 0.001 to 150 mg/m3 and the particle size range is approximately 0.1 to 15 micrometres.

The size split shows how much of the dust is respirable or PM2.5 rather than just total. The related 8534 handheld and the 8533EP external-pump version share this manual; the DustTrak II 8530 reports a single mass reading. Related instruments are under Portable Test & Measurement.

Capabilities in the manual

  • Five simultaneous channels: PM1, PM2.5, Resp, PM10 and Total, all shown on the 5.7 in. touchscreen.
  • Alarm 1 and Alarm 2 plus a STEL alarm based on second-by-second data that saves 15 minutes of 1-minute STEL data to its own file.
  • Ten stored user calibrations with Photometric and Size Correction factors, standard and advanced (PCF/SCF) methods.
  • Run modes Survey, Manual Log and Log Modes 1 to 5; USB, Ethernet, analog output and removable 37 mm gravimetric cartridge.

DRX or DustTrak II?

Choose the DRX 8533 when you need to report PM1, PM2.5, respirable and PM10 together, for example for environmental permits or for comparing workplace exposure to size-based limits. Choose the DustTrak II 8530 when total mass with optional impactor cuts is enough, and a wider 400 mg/m3 range matters; the DRX tops out at 150 mg/m3.

The 8533EP external-pump version suits continuous monitoring over days to months, while the 8534 handheld has a 3.5 in. screen, a buzzer alarm and no analog output.

Zeroing, flow and calibration practice

Run Zero Cal the first time the instrument is used and before every use, always with the zero filter attached; negative concentrations signal zero drift. Flow is factory set to 3 L/min total and should stay fixed, with no impactors or cyclones on the inlet during normal operation. The Flow Cal screen lets you re-adjust to 3.0 L/min using an external reference flow meter.

The Factory Cal is traceable to ISO 12103-1 A1 test dust and suits most workplace aerosol; the Ambient Cal suits outdoor and fugitive dust. A size correction factor can be set with a PM2.5 impactor on a clean inlet, and the advanced PCF and SCF method uses two gravimetric measurements. Do not rely on the alarm output for life-safety protection.

Environmental and occupational dust work

The PM2.5 and PM10 fractions make the DRX suited to boundary and workplace monitoring at construction sites, cement and aggregate plants and bulk-handling yards. The 50 C upper operating limit is close to summer ground temperatures in the Gulf, so mount the monitor in a shaded enclosure and use the external-pump 8533EP for continuous outdoor stations as the manual advises.

Parts mentioned in the manual

Listed parts include the 801680 desktop battery, 801652 analog or alarm cable, zero filter 800663, TrakPro software 1090014, carrying case 801670 and USB cable 1303740. Options include an external pump kit, battery charger and zero module; confirm them in an RFQ.

Selection and installation notes

Aerosol and particle instruments are selected from the particle size, the concentration range and the sampling method of the survey. Zero the instrument with the filter before each run, keep the inlet and the sampling line clean, use the correct flow and calibration factor for the aerosol and keep the instrument calibration and any service according to the maker schedule and your quality system. Record the location, the time and the activity with each result.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.

Frequently asked questions

What does the DRX measure that the DustTrak II does not? Five size-segregated mass fractions at once: PM1, PM2.5, respirable, PM10 and total.

What is the concentration range? 0.001 to 150 mg/m3 for the 8533 and 8534.

Can I fit an impactor to the DRX? The manual says the flow stays fixed at 3.0 L/min and no size-selective inlets or cyclones should be installed in normal operation; a PM2.5 impactor is used only for calibration steps.

What does the STEL alarm do? It checks the data every second and, on a breach, stores 15 minutes of 1-minute data in a separate file.
