14005.0-00 is the STEGO HG 140 enclosure heater in the 60 W, 185 mm tall version, a PTC convection heater with an anodised aluminium profile and a plastic connection case. It runs on 120-240 V AC/DC, 50/60 Hz, with a 2.5 A inrush current, class I protection and IP20.

The HG 140 is STEGO’s basic PTC convection heater for condensation prevention in enclosures and casings. Its heater element is an anodised aluminium profile; the black plastic connection case (UL94 V-0) holds three pressure clamps for the supply, and the unit is designed for continuous operation. STEGO highlights the dynamic response of the PTC element, which gives a fast heating-up and then self-limits.

This is a protection class I heater, so unlike the touch-safe CS 060 it needs the earth connection made at the terminal, and the aluminium surface should not be touched when hot. The family is wide: seven ratings from 15 W to 150 W share the 70 x 60 mm footprint, differing only in height and weight.

14005.0-00 is the first of the 185 mm versions: 60 W against only 45 W in the 110 mm body. Pick the shortest body that delivers the watts you need, because a taller heater mounted in a shallow cabinet reduces clearance above it. For very small boxes the 15 W 14000.0-00 is available.

STEGO notes that operation below AC/DC 140 V reduces heating capacity by about 10 %, so on 120 V supplies add that margin. The wide input range means one article number serves 120 V and 230 V panels, which simplifies stock for mixed projects.

Installation and operation notes

Mount on the 35 mm DIN rail with the connection at the bottom and the airflow direction in vertical. Connect with the three pressure clamps; the connection example on the STEGO page shows the supply (earth, L, N) wired through the clamps on the rail. Keep the heater away from plastic cable ducts and from components sensitive to heat above it.

Use a thermostat (see related items) for temperature control; as general practice, place the sensor in the upper part of the cabinet where the warm air accumulates, and keep it away from the heater air stream.

Condensation prevention in switchgear, motor control centres, terminal boxes, instrument cabinets and weatherproof housings, especially where equipment idles during cool nights in humid coastal air.

A low-watt heater running continuously is often the cheapest way to avoid corrosion and tracking in unconditioned panels.

Selection and maintenance notes

The heater output is chosen from the enclosure surface area, the lowest expected ambient temperature and the inside temperature needed to stay above the dew point. In the region, enclosure heaters are mainly used against condensation, which forms in humid coastal areas when cabinets cool down at night or when air conditioning cycles off. Combining the heater with a hygrostat or thermostat keeps it switched off when it is not needed, which saves energy and avoids adding heat in summer.

Mount the heater low in the enclosure with free space above and below, so warm air can rise and circulate. Keep heat-sensitive components and cables away from the heater, and check the terminals during routine maintenance.
