Brand:

Reelcraft L 5700 50 ft. 10/3 Power Cord Reel, 125 V 30 A

Description

A heavy-gauge cord reel for 30 A, 125 V indoor power distribution

The Reelcraft L 5700 is a Series L 5000 premium duty power cord reel. The reel is supplied bare: the 10 AWG, three-conductor, 50 ft cord (type SEOOW) is a separate item that you install, and the reel is rated 125 V and 30 A, 60 Hz single phase.

It uses a robotically welded heavy-gauge steel frame (base plate and upright 14 gauge, guide arm 13 gauge, spool 16 gauge), a heavy-duty collector ring for maximum conductivity and a speed latch that locks the spool in two positions per rotation. Reelcraft states it is UL and CSA approved and intended for indoor, non-weathertight applications.

Page and manual points

  • Collector ring assembly with brushes feeds power to the rotating spool
  • Corrosion-resistant individually powder-coated components
  • Configurable for top, side or bottom wind (bottom wind for constant-tension reels only)
  • Made in the USA

What the code tells you

The L prefix is the cord reel line; 5700 is the 50 ft, 10/3 version with no outlet (bare). Siblings in the flyer include the L 5000 (35 ft, 10 AWG SO cord) and models with receptacles, GFCI or twist-lock plugs under other numbers. Because the L 5700 ships without cord, buy 10/3 cable of the right type and length separately and follow the manual that says only 10/3 cable may be used for the input wiring.

The page gives a type designation of SEOOW for the cord on this series, the cord type the flyer prints for this model, while the reel itself is limited to indoor non-weathertight use. Estimate cord length against the 50 ft rating and the 16 ft installation height: a full-length pull is possible only if the reel and the outlet it feeds are placed so the cord is not stretched or kinked.

Wiring and safety points from instructions 1318-124

Only a qualified electrician should install or service the reel; installation of GFCI cord reels must be by a qualified, licensed professional to building codes and NEC standards. Maximum installation height is 16 ft unless specified at order.

  • Remove all electrical power before servicing and check the cord for frayed or broken wires before each use.
  • Connect input wires and collector-ring wires together, join ground wires to the ground lug on the inner spool and check ground faults with an ohmmeter.
  • Adjust spring tension by adding or removing cord wraps one at a time, without exceeding the spring capacity.
  • Use a swing bracket or pivot base if the cord is pulled at more than 45 degrees.

Indoor power drops in workshops and fabrication halls

A ceiling or wall-mounted 30 A cord reel feeds portable tools, welding machines and temporary lighting without extension leads on the floor. In Gulf workshops this is common in fabrication halls and maintenance bays. Because the rating is for indoor, non-weathertight use, outdoor yards need a weatherproof arrangement instead. Cord-reel work is electrical work: the manual requires a qualified electrician and says all reels with flying leads must be hard wired. Match the cord type to the SEOOW designation in the table and use 10/3 cable only for the input wiring. The collector ring and brushes are the wear items that the manual points to when troubleshooting intermittent power.

Accessories

The page lists an S1-HR1004-3 adjustable bumper stop, an S600608 340 degree pivot base and a 600626 wall swing bracket. Cord and plug or outlet hardware are separate, and the flyer lists cord specifications and outer diameters to match your cable choice.

Selection and installation notes

A power cord reel is selected from the voltage, the current and the length of the cord, with the cord type chosen for the place of use. Mount it on a firm surface, uncoil enough cord to avoid overheating, protect the circuit with a suitable breaker and RCD, keep the cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges and inspect the cord and plug regularly. Do not exceed the current rating on the label.
