The Reelcraft 7850 OMP is a Series 7000 premium duty reel that already carries its hose: a medium-pressure 1/2 in. x 50 ft SAE 100R17 one-wire-braid hose. That makes it a ready-to-mount unit for oil dispensing, where the 5600 OMP and E9300 OMPBW in this brand range ship without hose.

Series 7000 is described by Reelcraft as very robust, with a base and guide arm engineered with ribs and gussets for strength. Base plate, upright and guide arm are 11 gauge steel and the spool is 16 gauge, powder coated individually. The guide arm adjusts to seven positions, and the inlet hose is plumbed into the base so the swivel is not stressed.

Choosing within Series 7000

The flyer lists the same chassis in many hose sizes: 7650 OMP is 3/8 in. (2600 psi) and 7850 OMP is 1/2 in. (3000 psi), while the OLP codes are low-pressure air and water. Pick the 7850 OMP when you want 1/2 in. flow of oil with the hose already fitted; if you prefer to select your own hose, the without-hose 7800 OMP (43 lb) exists in the same flyer.

Installation and service points from instructions 829-696A

Per manual 829-696A, installation height tops out at 16 ft unless the reel was ordered otherwise, and the guide arm may be set for top, side or bottom wind by moving the bracket nuts. If the arm is relocated, the U-bolt has to follow it to the position shown in figure A; skip that and the spool may latch out while the hose is being pulled.

• Supply side: flexible hose only, never rigid pipe, with thread sealant on the input threads but none on the output joint.
• Purging: crack the control valve until oil shows, close it, then release the latch and let the hose wind in.
• Owner servicing stops at hose replacement; springs and swivels go back to Reelcraft or a qualified service person.
• Grounding: bond reel, hose and the equipment being serviced and prove continuity with an ohmmeter.

Oil lines in workshops and plants

With 50 ft of reach at 1/2 in., this reel covers fleet workshops, generator rooms, pump houses and compressor halls where oil top-up lines cross a floor or ceiling bay. The ceiling or wall mount, plus a swing bracket for pulls above 45 degrees, keeps hoses off the ground in dusty yards. Always check fluid and ambient temperature against the 210 F limit, particularly in uninsulated sheds. Because the 7850 OMP is supplied with hose, commissioning is quicker than for a bare reel: connect the supply, purge, wind in and set the bumper. Pressure drop over 50 ft of 1/2 in. hose is much lower than over 3/8 in., which is the reason many shops standardise on this size for gear-oil and engine-oil dispensing.

The product page lists an S17-260043 two-foot and S39-260043 five-foot oil inlet hose, S600608 340 degree pivot base and 600626 wall swing bracket, plus the spares named in the table above. A pivot base is the usual answer when the hose will be pulled sideways across a wide area. Reelcraft also publishes pressure-drop and flow-rate charts and a material-compatibility table for the series, which are worth checking against your oil viscosity and temperature, since the flow achievable through 50 ft of 1/2 in. hose depends on fluid, supply pressure and length rather than on the reel itself.

Selection and installation notes

A hose or cord reel is selected from the fluid or service, the hose size and length, the working pressure and the mounting position. Check that the hose, swivel and fittings are rated for the fluid and the pressure, mount the reel on a solid surface with the bolts and base the maker recommends, set the spring tension with the hose held, guide the hose to the reel without sharp bends and replace the hose at the first sign of wear. Do not use the reel for a fluid it is not rated for.
