Brand:

Circutor computer SMART III 14 Power Factor Controller

Description

A 14-step power factor controller that reads one or three current transformers

The Circutor computer SMART III 14 (code R13864) is a three-phase power factor regulator with 14 contactor outputs. Circutor describes the Computer SMART III as the only regulator on the market that can use three measurement transformers as well as the conventional single transformer, which gives an analogue reading of the company meter, and it also works as an integral power analyzer.

The datasheet adds leakage current control with WG series current transformers, programmable alarms and capacitor-status tests for preventive maintenance, up to four objective cos phi targets for different time periods, and use with medium-voltage compensation units. Switching is by contactor.

Which SMART III model?

The SMART III contactor family is offered in three sizes on one datasheet: 6 steps (R13851.), 12 steps (R13862.) and 14 steps (R13864.), all …/5 A or …/1 A. Note that the 14-step model has a supply range of 100 to 400 Vac, whereas the 6 and 12 step models are listed at 100 to 520 Vac. For installations with fast-changing loads, Circutor lists the SMART III Fast regulators instead, which switch static elements. Confirm the number of capacitor steps in the bank and the CT ratio before ordering.

Installation and operation notes

Fit the regulator into a 144 x 144 mm panel cut-out, keeping within the IP51 front-panel rating and -10 to 55 C working range. Choose between one-CT and three-CT measurement during setup: the three-transformer method suits unbalanced systems, and the datasheet recommends moving from one to three CTs after a change in penalties, consumption habits or imbalance. Use WG-series transformers if leakage current monitoring is wanted, and connect RS-485 for supervisory access.

Where the SMART III 14 is used

Typical uses are automatic capacitor banks for plants billed on reactive energy: factories, workshops, malls and pumping stations. A 14-step regulator gives finer correction than a 6-step unit on large loads. Respect the printed 55 C working limit by mounting it in a ventilated panel.

Selection and installation notes

Before ordering a power factor regulator, collect the data the sizing depends on: the supply voltage and frequency, the current transformer ratio and where the transformer is fitted, the number and size of the capacitor steps, the contactor or static switch type and whether harmonics are present on the network. Fit the current transformer upstream of both the load and the capacitor bank so that the regulator sees the net current, connect it with the polarity shown in the manual and let the regulator run its automatic set-up before the first start. Check the alarm and relay settings and write the final values on the commissioning record so that later service work starts from a known state.
