Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 525 25B-D043N114 22 kW AC Drive
Description
The 22 kW top rating of the PowerFlex 525
The Allen-Bradley 25B-D043N114 is the largest PowerFlex 525 for 380 to 480 V supplies, rated 22 kW (30 HP) in normal duty and 18.5 kW (25 HP) in heavy duty with 43.0 A output current. It shares Frame E with the 18.5 kW 25B-D037N114, so panel dimensions are the same, but it offers a 16 percent higher continuous current. Typical uses are 22 kW pumps, blowers, cooling-tower fans and conveyors where the user wants the same programming and safety features as the smaller drives.
The control module is the same standard module used across the whole range, which keeps parameter files portable between sizes through USB MainsFree programming.

Selecting protection and cooling
Total drive loss is 697 W, the highest in the 400 V range. Verify the panel cooling and the 4.0 kHz carrier rating basis, since a higher carrier frequency reduces available current. For protection Rockwell lists the 100-C60 contactor, Class CC, J or T fuses to 80 A in the UL table, IEC fuses of 50 to 80 A, the 140MT-F9E-C45 manual motor controller and the 140G-G6C3-C60 molded-case breaker.
Frame E is screw-mounted only, and the storage temperature range for Frame E is -40 to +70 °C, narrower than the -40 to +85 °C of Frames A to D. Confirm that the supply cable and motor are matched to the 43 A rating.
Catalog code and family ratings
Reading the catalog number: 25B is the PowerFlex 525, D is the 380…480V 3-phase supply, the next group is the output current code, N is the IP20 open enclosure, 1 is the standard interface, and the following digit is the emission class: 1 means an integral EMC filter and 0 means no filter. The last digit 4 is the version.

Key features of the 25B-D043N114
- Dual rating: normal duty for variable-torque loads such as centrifugal pumps and fans, heavy duty for constant-torque loads such as conveyors and mixers.
- Embedded EtherNet/IP port on the PowerFlex 525 range for integration with Logix controllers.
- Safe Torque Off built in, reducing the need for external contactors in many machine safety designs.
- Removable control module that can be configured over USB before the power module is installed.
- Integral EMC filter on this rating, helpful where the supply also feeds sensitive equipment.
- Several motor control modes including permanent-magnet motor control for high-efficiency motors.
Sizing the drive to the motor
Select the drive on motor current, not only on kilowatts. A 22 kW four-pole motor at 400 V usually draws a nameplate current within the 43 A continuous output of this drive in normal duty, but motors with lower efficiency or power factor, or those operating at 380 V, can draw more. Check the nameplate full-load amps against the drive rating, and move to heavy duty or the next larger frame where the load needs high starting torque, frequent acceleration or sustained overload.
Cable and motor considerations
Long motor cables increase reflected voltage at the motor terminals and capacitive currents in the drive. For long runs, check the cable length limits in the Rockwell documentation and consider output reactors or filters. Shielded motor cable bonded at both ends helps contain emissions, and older motors not rated for inverter duty may need additional protection.
Installation in Oman and GCC conditions
High ambient temperature is the main factor for drives in the region. The drive runs without derating up to 50 °C, but enclosure temperature rises above outside air because of the 697 W loss at full load. Size panel cooling, whether filtered fans or air conditioning, to remove this heat, and allow for solar gain on outdoor panels. Fine sand and dust clog filters and heat sinks, so a maintenance plan for filter replacement is important. Typical regional applications include water pumping stations, irrigation, HVAC chilled water and condenser pumps in commercial buildings, cooling tower fans, and process conveyors in cement, food and mining plants.
Commissioning tips
- Enter motor nameplate data and run an autotune before selecting sensorless or velocity vector control.
- Set acceleration and deceleration times to suit the load; long decel on high-inertia fans avoids overvoltage faults.
- Use the sleep-wake and PID functions for pressure-controlled pump systems.
- Save the final parameter set to file using Connected Components Workbench or the USB connection for quick replacement.
Maintenance
- Inspect and clean heat sink and fans at regular intervals, more often in dusty sites.
- Check terminal tightness after the first months of operation and during planned shutdowns.
- Review the fault log for recurring overcurrent or overtemperature events that indicate a load or cooling problem.

About brand
Catalog numbers beginning 1756, 1734, 1746 or 5069 are read at a glance by anyone who maintains Allen-Bradley control panels. The brand, the control hardware name of Rockwell Automation, dates back to 1903 in Milwaukee, USA. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Allen-Bradley PLC and I/O modules, communication adapters and PowerFlex drives for plants in Oman, matching catalog number, series letter and firmware against the manufacturer's documentation.
Allen-Bradley product families listed here
Current controller platforms on this page are ControlLogix, with the 1756-L85E ControlLogix 5580 controller and the 1756-PA72 chassis power supply, and CompactLogix 5380, with the 5069-L320ER and 5069-L340ERM. Distributed I/O is represented by POINT I/O: the 1734-AENTR dual-port EtherNet/IP adapter and the 1734-IB8 digital input module. Allen-Bradley drives listed include the PowerFlex 525 and PowerFlex 755. For installed systems there are SLC 500 parts: the 1746-A10 chassis, 1746-NI16I analog input module, 1747-ASB remote I/O adapter, 1747-KE interface and 1747-M13 memory module.
Where Allen-Bradley hardware is used
ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers run packaged equipment and plant utilities: compressor and pump skids, water and wastewater plants, power distribution, material handling and packaging lines. PowerFlex drives control pumps, fans and conveyors. Many SLC 500 racks are still in service.
Ordering Allen-Bradley modules and drives: what we need
Send the full catalog number, the series letter and, for controllers and communication modules, the firmware revision printed on the side label. Compatibility with an existing project depends on these. For PowerFlex drives, give the complete catalog string, which encodes voltage, current rating, enclosure and options, plus the motor nameplate data. For SLC 500 parts, tell us the rack size and processor so that we can check slot and power supply loading in the manufacturer's manuals. A label photo avoids most mistakes.
