M5 frame details for the 18.5 kW rating

The M5 frame is 248 mm deep and weighs a calculated 9.5 kg net, with a Type 1 kit (132B0121) and a decoupling plate (132B0122) listed in the Design Guide. Fuses for non-UL installations are 80 A gG; the UL option is Bussmann KTS-R60. Efficiency is 98.1 percent best case and 98.0 percent typical, with a loss of 395.0 W to 428.0 W. Typical use is a 18.5 kW pump, fan or extruder that needs a compact IP20 drive. No IP21 kit or MCC 107 line filter is listed for this size in the Design Guide, so confirm accessories for the actual installation.

With 395.0 W best-case and 428.0 W typical loss, the 18.5 kW unit dissipates about 2.1 to 2.3 percent of its rating, and its efficiency is the highest in this group at 98.1 percent best case and 98.0 percent typical. The M5 housing is 335 mm by 165 mm by 248 mm with mounting spacing of 315 mm by 140 mm, and the Danfoss store lists a net weight of 9.983 kg and a gross weight of 10.273 kg. The larger frame has 16 mm2 terminals with 1.3 Nm torque, which suits the 34.7 A input and 37.0 A output of this rating. Output current is 37.0 A against 31.0 A on the 15 kW unit.

Ordering number, accessories and availability

FC-051P18KT4E20H3BXCXXXSXXX uses P18K, which Danfoss rates at 18.5 kW; C marks the coated PCB. For the M5 frame the Design Guide lists a Type 1 kit 132B0121 and a decoupling plate 132B0122; no IP21 kit is listed for this frame. The Design Guide ordering table pairs no MCC 107 line filter with this number. The store entry notes the same lifecycle dates as the other FC 51 numbers (last time buy 30 June 2026, last delivery 30 September 2026) and an iC2-Micro upgrade offer. Verify stock first. Key features of the FC 51 at 18.5 kW

  • Compact IP20 chassis – the M5 frame is designed for installation inside a control panel, side by side with other equipment.
  • Two control principles – VVC+ voltage vector control up to 200 Hz for good torque at low speed, and U/f control up to 400 Hz for special motors or multiple motors on one drive.
  • 150 percent overload for 1 minute – covers the starting torque of most pumps, fans, conveyors and mixers.
  • Built-in brake chopper – an external brake resistor can be connected for applications that need fast deceleration.
  • Integrated RFI filter – the H3 filter reduces conducted emissions without a separate filter in many installations.
  • Coated PCB – the C in the model code marks conformal coating that improves resistance to humidity and contamination.
  • Process PI controller – allows the drive to hold pressure, level or flow from a sensor signal without a separate controller.

Selecting the drive for a 25 hp motor

Select the drive on motor current rather than on kilowatt rating alone. The 132F0060 delivers 37.0 A continuously at 380-440 V and 34.0 A at 440-480 V. Compare these figures with the motor nameplate current at the actual supply voltage, and check whether the load needs more than 150 percent starting torque. Heavy starting, frequent starts or a motor with a high nominal current may need a larger drive from another VLT series, because 18.5 kW is the top rating of the FC 51 range.

Installation in Oman and GCC conditions

Drives in pump stations, farms, workshops and building plant rooms across the region often operate in high ambient temperatures and dusty air. For the 18.5 kW unit, with up to 428 W of heat loss, panel design is important:

  • Calculate panel cooling for the drive losses and all other heat sources, and check the derating rules in the Design Guide for high ambient temperature.
  • Respect the free space above and below the drive for cooling air.
  • Use filtered fans or panel air conditioning in dusty locations, and clean the filters regularly.
  • Use the decoupling plate 132B0122 to terminate shielded motor and control cables properly for EMC.
  • Fit the branch fuses listed in the specification table on the supply side.

Lifecycle and upgrade planning

The Danfoss store entry shows last-time-buy and last-delivery dates for the FC 51 numbers and an upgrade offer to the iC2-Micro. For spare-part stock or like-for-like replacement on existing machines, ordering the 132F0060 keeps parameter sets and panel layout unchanged. For new machine designs, it is worth reviewing the successor product with the panel builder, since dimensions, terminals and parameters differ.

Typical applications

At 18.5 kW the drive suits borewell and transfer pumps, irrigation pumps, cooling tower and ventilation fans, compressors and conveyors where a compact, simple drive is preferred.

What to include in your RFQ

About brand

From its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark, where it was founded in 1933, Danfoss makes the drives, valves and sensors found in pump rooms, chiller plants and cold stores. Its blue VLT frequency converters are probably the most familiar of them.

Seven Star LLC lists Danfoss VLT drives, pressure transmitters, refrigeration valves and HVAC control valves, and supplies them to contractors and plant owners in Oman against the exact code number on the label.

Danfoss product families on this page

Among the VLT drives listed, three are each aimed at a different duty: the VLT HVAC Drive FC 102 for fans and building services, the VLT AQUA Drive FC 202 for water and wastewater pumping, and the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 for general industrial machinery. The LCP 12 control panel with potentiometer (code number 132B0101) is also listed; Danfoss specifies it for the VLT Micro Drive FC 51. In pressure measurement there are the MBS 3000 general purpose transmitter and the MBS 5100. Valves include the AB-QM pressure independent control valve in DN 15 to DN 250, the EVR 25 servo-operated solenoid valve and the ICV pilot-operated valve for industrial refrigeration.

Where Danfoss equipment is used

District cooling and chilled water plants, air handling units, booster and irrigation pump stations, desalination and wastewater works, ammonia and CO2 refrigeration plants, food storage and marine engine rooms are the usual places. Demand in the GCC is driven largely by cooling and water.

Ordering Danfoss parts: what we need

Every Danfoss product has a code number, and drives also carry a long type code string on the label. Send both. For a drive we need the motor power and current, the mains voltage, enclosure rating, any fieldbus or option card and the filter class. For an MBS transmitter give the pressure span, output signal, pressure connection and electrical connection. For valves give the size, connection type, coil voltage where relevant and the refrigerant or medium.
