Brand:

Dodge Motorized Torque-Arm MTA Shaft-Mount Reducer

Description

Direct-drive shaft-mount reducer for continuous, high-shock duty

The Dodge Motorized Torque-Arm (MTA) is a right-angle, shaft-mounted, direct-drive reducer in the Torque-Arm family. Dodge invented the shaft-mounted reducer with the original Torque-Arm in 1949 and says more than three million Torque-Arm units are in service. MTA is offered in 10 sizes with several motor input options for drive packages up to 329,000 lb-in, and the brochure presents it as the rugged answer for continuous, high-shock applications. The motor attaches directly to the reducer, so the drive needs no base, belts, chains or alignment of separate components.

It is built in Dodge’s ISO 9001:2015 certified facility in Greenville, South Carolina, and every gearbox is spin and leak tested before shipment. Dodge describes the unit as assembled from stock components so that popular configurations are available off the shelf.

Motor input options

Input Coupling Motor frames Availability
Enclosed input adapter Three-piece jaw coupling NEMA C-face 56 to 140T; IEC flange 90 to 250 Sizes 2 to 12
Safety input adapter Sidewinder wrap coupling, removable cover for coupling access NEMA C-face 180T to 405T Sizes 2 to 12
Atlas Adapter (patent pending) For large foot-mounted motors NEMA foot-mounted 364T to 447T Sizes 7 to 12

Dodge states that flanged-motor assemblies support drive packages up to 100 hp (75 kW) and Atlas Adapter packages up to 200 hp (150 kW). For sizes 2 to 8 the tie rod should sit closest to the input end to reduce stress on the driven shaft; sizes 9 to 12 use a torque arm reaction beam. A tie rod kit for sizes up to 8, a heim-joint torque arm for the larger sizes, a motor-shaft fan on packaged assemblies with foot-mounted adapters, and an electric fan for sizes 7 to 12 are among the accessories.

Seals, backstop and drive options

The patented sealing system uses an HNBR oil seal protected by a metal excluder with a rubbing lip. Dodge states that HNBR lasts up to six times longer than standard NBR, covers -40 to 300 degF, and improves chemical and ozone resistance, which is why the catalogue names aggregates, mining, cement, asphalt, mixing and milling, and ethanol as target industries. The sprag backstop is the only one Dodge describes as designed for EP lubricants, and the catalogue notes MTA requires a larger backstop than an equivalent Torque-Arm II. A CEMA bolt-on screw conveyor adapter with double-lip seals and a three-hole alloy steel drive shaft is available, as are hydraulic drive assemblies, breather options including Hydra-Lock desiccant types, and reliability kits.

Ordering code and what to confirm

A model reads M for Motorized Torque-Arm, case size, H for heavy-duty, nominal ratio, T for tapered bore, motor frame and C for NEMA C-face or F for foot-mounted, for example M3H25T21C. C-face versions are listed for sizes 2 to 12, and foot-mounted adapter versions (F) for sizes 7 to 12. Confirm before ordering: shaft diameter and standard or short-shaft bushings, ratio and output speed, motor frame and enclosure, backstop direction, and the breather or reliability options needed for the environment.

About brand

Dodge is an American brand of mounted bearings, gear reducers and couplings with roots in 1878, when Wallace Dodge began making wood products in Mishawaka, Indiana; the company became known for its wood split pulley and then power transmission products. Dodge passed to Reliance Electric in 1967, to Baldor in 2007 and to ABB in 2011, and became part of RBC Bearings in 2021. Its head office is in Simpsonville, South Carolina.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Dodge bearings, reducers and couplings from official documents for mining, aggregate, cement and material handling users in Oman and the GCC.
