Ringfeder RfN 4061 Standard Shrink Disc, 14-200 mm

Description

The standard shrink disc for small and mid-size shafts

The RfN 4061 is RINGFEDER’s most popular shrink disc, a universally applicable series for smaller shaft diameters and high torques. It covers inner diameters from 14 to 200 mm and, as the direct further development of the RfN 4071 up to 200 mm, uses forged pressure rings of high stability for good stress distribution and security against breakage. RINGFEDER presents it as the cost-efficient answer for the widest range of applications.

Both two-part and three-part forms are shown in the tech paper. The slit inner ring keeps losses and pressure on the hub low, and the preload can be set to the application by varying the tightening torque. After the screws are loosened the disc releases by itself and the hub moves freely on the shaft.

Selected sizes from the tech paper

d x D (mm) Shaft dw (mm) L (mm) TA (Nm) T (Nm) Fax (kN) Screws Weight (kg)
14 x 37 11 14.8 2.4 37 8 3 x M4 0.1
20 x 46 16 21 4 140 22 5 x M5 0.2
30 x 52 25 26 5 400 41 7 x M5 0.2
44 x 80 35 30 12 1,000 73 7 x M6 0.5
50 x 90 40 31.5 12 1,500 96 9 x M6 0.9
200 x 350 155 96 250 81,000 1,045 12 x M16 39

The 14 x 37 size is listed with three shaft diameters (10, 11 and 12 mm). Its screws are of lower quality, 8.8 instead of 10.9, as the table footnote states.

Reading the table from top to bottom shows how the series scales: the 20 x 46 disc is tabulated at 140 Nm with five M5 screws, the 44 x 80 disc at 1,000 Nm with seven M6 screws, and the 200 x 350 disc at 81,000 Nm with twelve M16 screws and an axial force of 1,045 kN. Use the shaft diameter column to match a disc to your shaft, since each size accepts several diameters at different torque values.

Using the series

The nickel plated version is ordered by adding N after the size; the product paper also lists a stainless steel RfN 4061 for equipment that must be cleaned intensely. For shafts above 200 mm the paper points to the extended RfN 4071 series. Typical uses are gear wheels, sprockets, pulleys, couplings, brake discs and levers on machine shafts. Confirm before ordering: the shaft diameter dw within the range of the size, hub yield strength and bore, and torque with shock factor.

For orientation, the product paper lists the maximum clearance S between shaft and bore that the function values allow: 0.011 mm for shafts of 6 to 10 mm, 0.017 mm for 18 to 30 mm, 0.032 mm for 30 to 50 mm and 0.048 mm for 50 to 80 mm. As long as the stated clearance is not exceeded, other tolerances may be chosen without changing the functional characteristics.

About brand

Ringfeder is a German manufacturer of shaft-hub connections and couplings for mechanical power transmission, headquartered in Groß-Umstadt and part of the Swedish VBG Group. Locking assemblies, shrink discs and locking elements are its core product groups.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Ringfeder RfN series from the official tech papers and quote them for machine builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Ringfeder product series

Locking assemblies fit between shaft and hub bore: RfN 7012 for shafts from 19 to 1000 mm, the self-centring RfN 7013.0 and RfN 7003, the heavy torque RfN 7014, RfN 7015.0, the three-piece RfN 7005 and RfN 7515, RfN 7006 with collar, the miniature RfN 7061 and the compact RfN 7110. Shrink discs clamp a hollow hub onto a shaft from the outside: light RfN 4051, standard RfN 4061 and RfN 4071, mini RfN 4073, route-controlled RfN 4161 and heavy-duty RfN 4091 and RfN 4181. RfN 8006 locking elements cover shafts from 6 to 1000 mm.

All of these are keyless friction connections, so there is no keyway to weaken the shaft and no backlash. Each tech paper lists sizes, transmissible torque and axial force, screw tightening torques and tolerances.

Where Ringfeder connections are used

Gear wheels, sprockets, pulleys, couplings and brake discs on shafts; hollow-shaft gear units on conveyors, mills and crushers; and drives in mining, cement, wind energy and general machine building.
