AEG Protect D Online UPS 1-10 kVA Rack or Tower

Description

A compact single-phase online UPS with unity power factor

The AEG Protect D is a single-phase in and out online UPS from 1,000 to 10,000 VA with integrated batteries, for rack or tower use. It has a unity power factor (VA equals W), which AEG Power Solutions says gives about 11 % more usable power than conventional UPS systems, and it offers VFI (online, double-conversion) topology with an ECO mode for efficiency.

The UPS electronics and battery together are only 2U high, and autonomy can be extended with up to six extra battery packs that are detected automatically. Typical applications are IT rooms, rack applications, Industry 4.0, edge computing and IoT, so this is a small-load product rather than a heavy-duty industrial unit.

Range structure and scaling

The 1 to 3 kVA models offer an extremely wide input window of 110 to 300 VAC, an extension slot for communication cards, parallel communication, a graphic LCD in several languages, a real-time event logger, a planned automatic battery test and switchable output groups for load shedding. The UPS can also be used as a frequency converter. The “S” versions have a higher charging power for longer autonomy.

The D 6000 and D 10000 models add parallel operation of up to three units, a removable connection unit with a manual maintenance bypass, and rack fit in cabinets only 800 mm deep. Power supply to the connection unit is by fixed terminals.

Selecting a model and what to confirm

Pick the model by VA/W rating and the autonomy you need; the brochure publishes typical autonomy tables per model with 0 to 6 extra battery packs. Order the matching battery pack part number (for example 3000 4624 or 3000 4625) separately.

Autonomy times are approximate and vary with configuration, battery age and temperature. Confirm the load, the input voltage, rack or tower format, the communication card needed and whether the IT room or control room really suits this IT-class UPS rather than an industrial series such as Protect 8 or Protect 5C.

AEG Power Solutions product series

The Protect RCS family covers thyristor-controlled rectifiers and battery chargers: SPRe and TPRe single- and three-phase units, the TPRe TD version for transmission and distribution, the compact mSPRe and the modular switch-mode MIPe system with hot-swappable MIPe NewGen modules. They charge nickel-cadmium and lead-acid batteries and feed DC loads.

Industrial UPS systems include the Protect 8 PLUS, Protect 8 S14 monoblock and Protect 8 S10 double-conversion units from 10 kVA upwards, the Protect 5C up to 200 kVA, and the Protect D online UPS for racks and edge sites, also in a Li-ion version.

Where AEG Power Solutions systems are used

Substation and switchgear DC supplies, control and protection systems in power plants, refineries and gas plants, telecom and instrumentation supplies, and critical AC loads such as DCS, emergency lighting and safety systems.
